At least once a year, the spring that supports our double wide garage door breaks. I don't get it. And now it's hard to get my truck out.

i HATE those, heard a huge crack come from my garage a few years ago when a loaded spring broke over my moms trailblazer and made a nice dent in the wall in the back of the garage. now the other side where i park is starting to get worn

there's no telling when it'll break, and it's not like it gets abused or anything. it just breaks once a year, and we gotta lift the stupid thing anytime i need out.

It's a big metal double wide door. Takes two of us to pick it up.

Our garage door is the same way. We've been through 4 springs, 2 doors, all the tracks and 3 openers all within 2 years. But when ours breaks it's impossible to open.

    well that sucks then.

How about getting a higher quality spring if the ones you have keep breaking?

    Or perhaps a lighter door?

are you sure youre installing the springs right? ive never really had problems with the springs and even when they break we just change them and they are good for a long time.

I think we have only replaced ours one of our 4 that we have in 20 years. That was just because it was starting to get a little wore out. I am thinking you have problems somewhere else. You should not be going through springs like that.

Check to make sure there is no binding or anything. Maybe even look into a new door and tracks. That would be easier and probably cheaper than replacing springs all the time.

Definitely have the wrong springs on the door. Springs are rated by cycles( how many times you open and close your door). Currently most manufacturers sell 10,000 to 12,000 cycle spring with a new door. That will last 8 to 12 years depending on how much you open your door. Here in Ga a replacement of both springs with ten to twelve thousand cycle springs cost under 200.00 installed. What I suggest, if you door is in excellent working order, is that you want high cycle springs. Tell them you want 25,000 cycle. Those should last 20+ years and shouldn't cost you more than 40 to 50 bucks more. And have them do a complete door and opener service( if done correctly will take an hour to do). This will have your door workin like a dream. I read your post that you had some one working on it around lunch today. Sorry I missed the the thread. LMK how it work out

I think he put on an "oversized" spring for us now, hopefully no more problems for a while. Our door has 2 springs, it's the same one that keeps breaking, and the last one was half the size of the other. He said that didn't make any sense.
