I have my 2014 Chevy Cruze for sale on the local classifieds, and I got this text message this morning.

Hi, I'm interested in buying your vehicle. Can you send me your e-mail address because I have some questions but can't really talk right now. John

The cell number was local, but it seems strange he would ask for my email.

Stuff like this is yet another reason why I don't put my number on Craigslist ads. People can email me if they are interested in what I have to sell. If they don't have an email, then they are pretty damn useless anyway.

The thing that confused me is that when I searched the number, it came up as being local, even though the area code was wrong.

I figured out that they try to get you to email them because their account was already banned

Take your number off the ad and spell out a few of the numbers. Bots cant translate letters to numbers so I weeds out like 90% of the bull**** responses
98 Grand prix SE to GTP conversion( in works). Full body conversion in works, drilled n slotted rotors, ceramics, all new suspension, custom CAI, NGK wires/Vpower plugs, SD headers, 180 Tstat, AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF PAINT BABY!! Tuned by E&J performance.

This. I used CL plenty with zero scammer interference, but always spell out the number and / or email in a sentence buried in the ad text someplace. The thing about scammers showing local numbers is one of the newer tricks, just a caller ID mod. My Dad answers any and every call and tries to have frank discussions, lol. I don't respond to anybody not already in my contacts because if they can't leave a message they for sure ain't a person needing to speak with me.
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.
