Hi members this is my first post. I recently purchased a 2001 Grand Prix. It requires an ink pen shoved into a hole under the steering column to remove the key. What part do I need to repair my ignition and how difficult is the process?

you can open the column and remove the part your pushing up, zip tie it, or replace it, or cut a straw like a fat burger king one so that when it pushes the button up with the cap back on under the column.
I did what Scott said, I have a straw pushing it up the whole time. It occasionally falls out going over bad bumps in the road, but that's after a month or two. If you want the permanent fix, you need to rip apart your center console and fix a bad wire.
Thanks guys I'll try this out & let you know how it goes.
Mine has had a folded up business card in it since before I got it 2 1/2 years ago. Hasn't fallen out, and my trim panel is even broken and hanging down.
I took a dense piece of foam like what they use for yoga mats, cut a 2 inch square and shoved it up under the button the pressure from the button made an imprint which should permanently secure it. Thanks again for the suggestions.
A straw? Some foam?
God the laziness lol. Jesus Christ, people.
Just remove the damn plastic cover and rip out the white lock solenoid. It's that simple.
look under shifter.take cover off broken wire on harness in front of shifter under cover.
