Just tell me already

So I interviewed for a job on the 6th, I'm fully qualified, and one of my old mentors was on the interview panel.
I did well in the interview and I know I have a shot.
I was told id hear something by the end of last week at the latest.

I still haven't heard anything and its driving me insane. The place where I work/applied always notifies people one way or another, so it isn't necessarily a sign I didn't get the job.

The suspense is killing me, every time my phone rings, or I get an email I get anxious.

Any tips on how to deal with it from you job seekers?
Im planning on emailing my contact in HR for a status update if I don't hear anything by tomorrow.

Don't email, that seems kind of weak. I'd suggest calling them and seeing what's going on.

typically if it's a larger company they're trying to get in as many interviews as possible and it could take them a while to get through everyone they want, time wise.

i would also call. sometimes they do misplace people's things.

I was told the interviews would rap up Wednesday, and that they planned to have a decision by Thursday.

lots of times nowadays there is no denial effort. if you never hear back, you weren't chosen.

it's the way of the world, even if it's dumb outloud.

Where I work/ where I applied, they have a notification policy even if you do not get the job. There is also an online app system that keeps track of the status and does auto emails when it changes.

Emailed my mentor who was on the interview panel, they have made a decision and are waiting for HR to announce it.

I've been looking for a new job for a while now and it's the same crap here aswell.

You fill out all the crap, maybe even meet them in person and never hear another word back. Or you do the stuff, then have to wait a long ass time to get past a background check but the other part is that you are likely waiting for any other possible canidates to pass theirs aswell. So the long waiting game is what you play and it's very annoying.

As said, if it is a larger company, things take time.

I have always waited 2 days after the interview and then called in. Almost always got the job after that, what they say after that call you WILL know weather to move on or pack a lunch for monday.

Whats killing me is now I know they have decided who they are hiring, Im just waiting for the phone call or the email.
If its the email, I didn't get it, Phone call I still have a shot.

Be patient guy, getting overly anxious isn't going to speed things up, it's just gonna set you up for disappointment if you don't get hired. Meanwhile explore other options just in case.

So, Apparently they have decided not to fill the position, to simply leave it vacant. This means that the entire endeavor was a complete and utter waste of time. It wasnt even because i wasnt qualified, I asked the interviewer if there was anything on my record that would concern her about my ability to do the job and she said NO. I wasnt expecting to get the job, i was hoping but not expecting.
The fact that they are leaving it unfilled just burns me up though, because its either saying we wasted your time we dont want to hire anyone, or its saying we'd rather have no one than you.
Im calling my friend in HR to see what the story is tomorrow.

if i had a shot at the job thats one thing, but if they didnt fill there wasnt a shot.

If they are not filling it then they decided the group they interviewed wasn't a good fit. Sometimes personality during an interview has more to do with getting hired than qualifications. I had to interview people to fill a position on a production line. We placed ads on craigslist and careerlink and got multiple responses, but only 3 that were worth bringing in for interviews.

The first guy came in, was dressed casually, but appropriately enough for the position, had a great personality and made a great impression. The second came in, wore a dress shirt, tie and dress pants. He was qualified for the job (it would be hard not to be LOL), but he was just bland and seemed disinterested, but acted like he really wanted the job. The third came in wearing dirty clothes, with dirty hands, but he seemed like he could be a good fit.

I had them all meet my production team leader and afterwards we were both in agreement that the 1st guy was the way to go. Ironically enough he started, and lasted a day and a half before leaving at lunch and not coming back. We called the 3rd guy and he started the next day.

I talked to my friend in HR. The company announced last week its cutting management positions and re-structuring a lot of organizations. They put a moratorium on hires on Friday. I also found out that I was the choice made by the interviewer on Thursday. So I had the Job, for like 2 hours. They have suspended any hires because they do not know if the position will be needed, if another persons job will disappear and they will fill the slot etc.

I had a fantastic interview experience last summer, and was awaiting a job offer. Then they started being "vague" about their responses, and I eventually gave up wondering why they didn't hire me.

I found out last week that they closed the company and laid off all 200+ employees at the site. I'm glad they didn't hire me (and now I understand why).
