once the wire harness is off and the fuel rail's off theres nothing scary left. just bolts.

I'm 17 and had little experience with these motors. 7 hours later, I had the new gasket in and all went well. Only problems I ran into were because I didn't check me stuff. It's not hat hard of a job. Just give yourself a day or so to do this so if you break something, there's time to fix it.Originally Posted by Brammer

For me, the most nerve racking parts were prying up the fuel injectors and pulling the tensioner assembly (I despise coolant). You're gonna make a mess so do it somewhere that can be stained or put trash bags all over the ground. If you spill any coolant in the valley when you move the LIM, flush it with some oil with the drain bolt out.

My son is in Blacksburg... Not sure how much time he has and of course it would depend on when you want to do it. I could mention it to him that someone is looking for help. He has the GP SE w/3100 engine, 250k strong and going!
But honestly, as mentioned, the LIM job is not such a big thing. If you've turned wrenches, know how to aplly a little RTV, torque a few bolts, drain and replace fluid, you're all good! : ).
Don't let the post before this scare you, lol... There is a way to get the coolant out without losing a drop, nor get any in your oil. Takes a little ingenuity but I'll tell ha what I rigged up to do just that if you're interested.

You can do it Brammer. Just take your time as stated before and you'll be fine.
Might wanna get some new vacuum line in case the original stuff is cracked.

pump it out the upper hose as per my coolant flush how too.
id hardly call flushing your engines coolant a waste of water, you'll waste a few gallons, being the whole engine and rad hold less then 3 gallons.

Generic. I'm sure you can get premolded kit, but it's not worth the hassle or cost.
