Look for a Haynes Manual that covers 97-03, that would be a good starter repair manual. There are others out there as well. If you can get your hands on the GM TechLine DVD thats if full of stuff too.

I don't know how the Haynes is, but I can tell you the Chiltons isn't worth the paper it is printed on. One good thing I learned from my father is that when you buy a car that you plan on keeping for any length of time, get the official repair manuals. I got mine in good shape off of eBay for about $50 IIRC. For four volumes with all of the GM illustrations and troubleshooting tables it is worth its weight in gold IMO. Buy them. And to think I blew $20 on the Chiltons.

I would have to agree with that. Haynes is good, its usually the first thing I buy when I get a new vehicle, but it pales in comparison to the official repair manuals. GM TechLine I believe is those manuals on DVD, so that would make it kinda portable too.

Yeah I just got the three volume GM factory service manuals for my 99 GTP. Should have had them years ago. They are getting me through a double engine/trans pull by myself. Hopefully get everything off the transmissions tomorrow and have two empty engine bays. LOL. Definately recommend them. Got mine off ebay.

now when i do an ebay search, do i search for GM repair manuals or factory manuals?
i did a search and found 90s, but nothing for an 01. any other year i should look for that would include my car?

I think you'll find that when you're looking for manuals for these cars, they'll usually be categorized by a range of years, for instance, my (99 GP GT) and your car will be lumped together usually with '97-'03 years.

I am in pretty good with all my instructors at school so any time i want I use mitchell on demand or the actual gm repair software since they are a gm sponsored program.. Im triing to get a pas code out of my smog/electric teacher but im thinking it will take a few cases of full throtte and an a in my next class. I have alldata for my truck and crown vic. And also use autozones repair guide online aswell.

Helm Inc is a repair manual supplier I've used for years. Purchased my '04 Comp G a couple months ago and went to helminc.com and ordered up the man. They've always been VERY detailed on the several cars and trucks I've had over the years. Warning; they aren't cheap, $135 I think... but you've got EVERYTHING there in a couple thick books.

Along with a good repair manual get an original GM Parts and Illustration Catalog. These are awesome books, they give very detailed illustrations of every part of your car and reference charts. (Better than repair manuals) Shows how every part goes together with part numbers. There is one on ebay for 1988 to 1992 models for only 24.95. Item number: 300322174075.
