Rebuilt 4t60e about 1600 miles ago, everything seemed to be normal except for roaring noise assumed to be coming from front hub bearing.
When leaving a traffic light last night there was a loud popping and chunky sounding noise coming from drive train,at the same time the noise was heard
the car was jerking like someone stabbing the brake rapidly,I could tell it wasn't going to pull much further and it sounded like bad cv axles being destroyed.
Limped it in the 1st gas station and found the axles appear to be intact so I tried to take it home but had no pull in any gear, only made some final chunky
sounds then makes bad cv sounds in any drive gear. I'm thinking the torque converter or differential detonated, anyone have any ideas?

I pulled my axles and differential cover last night. The popping chunky sound was the planetary gears on the differential being shredded, spider gears looked great
but all four planetary gears are junked. This would probably explain the roaring noise, but I don't understand why this happened, the carrier unit was tight and
looked fine when I put it in the transmission. A friend of mine rebuilds transmissions and mentioned that my foot was unmerciful and tortured the differential.

It was the differential, what's left of it.All four planetary gears and the sun gear are virtually toothless, like an old grinning hag.
The bad hub bearing sound started about 15 mph and got louder with increased speed.Sounded worse when letting off the gas
and didn't matter which way the wheels were turned.I should have known it was more than a hub assembly.

    Just seeing this now.

The problem is the sun gear was put in backwards. It'll fit..it'll seem to work and then.. planetaries will shred themselves. Swiggles had this happen a couple times and when we were chatting with another buddy (he can break anything) he said..."yep, sun gear being backwards does that". I believe he has broken enough stuff to be 100% on the mark.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
