I just finished my engine swap, however, I havent bolted the flexplate to the torque converter yet. Anywho, when I went to push the car back to its parking space I didnt even have to put the car in neutral, it just rolled! Is this something I should be concerned about before I finish the install? Thanks.

Sure the parking cable is adjusted properly so that when the shifter is in park, the trans is in park?

There's a cable that runs from the shifter in the cabin to the lever on the tranny. It has a large adjuster along it somewhere for you to adjust the cable. Disconnect the cable from the tranny and push its lever all the way to the firewall (park). Then push the shifter in the cab all the way to park. If the cable no longer lines up with the lever, it should be adjusted.

This may no be the official method, and I'm too tired to look it up, but the backwater method should work just fine.

Thanks sabre, I will give it a shot. I just don't understand how that could have happened when I never messed with anything on the tranny....it stayed in the car the whole time.

If your cable checks out OK and you are definately in Park range on the trans then you should check the axles to make 100% sure they are both in all the way and somehow one of them didnt partially come out which will cause the trans to not have park as the unconnected side of the diff will freewheel whether in park or not.

Thanks everyone. I did have to use the shift lock release to put the car in neutral to move the car. Could this have an effect also? Thanks again.

????? I thought it rolled in park, why did you need to put it in nuetral? Anyways the above aside, IF the linkage or range switch position at the transmission is not correct or misadjusted now then you will have to push the shift interlock button to take it out of park.

Sorry trannyman, I had to put it in neutral because I needed to move the car back for more room to use the engine hoist. This is when I used the shift lock release because it wouldn't come out of park with all the electronics. After I put the engine in I was finished for the night and needed to push it back in the parking space. This is when I noticed that it rolled in park. This was my first engine swap, I was hoping I didn't screw anything up with the tranny during the process of taking the engine out. Sorry for being schizophrenic about this.
