Need some info on the swap ability of a 91 grand prix tranny and a 94 grand prix--the tags read as follows---the 91 reads 1 then vertically "YD"--the 94 reads 5 then vertically "AF"--can I use the 91 tranny in my 94?--Thanks Roger

Hi Roger, I just did some digging and found the thread I was talking to you about
http://www.grandprixforums.net/f3/4t...ring-1715.html
If your 91 trans is a 1YP then it actually looks like it should work ok, BUT you will have to use the side cover from your 95 trans because it is cast aluminum and uses that as a structural support for the trans side mount. The earlier years used a metal tube type support to bolt the trans mount to. My concern with the 91 was not having a TCC PWM lockup arrangement but it does not appear to say that it doesnt for that model. The gear ratio and vss reluctor wheel both show the same tooth count so that would be compatable. The torque converter on the 91 trans has a lower stall speed which also may have a different style lockup clutch material than that of the 95 trans but the sticker on the torque converter will be of use to decode what it really has. Make sure your 91 trans is a 1YP, 1YD is not on that chart and could be an oddball and that makes it more difficult to trace info.
Trannyman--thanks for all your troubles---it is a YD not a YP though--so I am sure it would be my luck it is an oddball---Roger--otherwise it sounded great......still confused....I do really appreciate it though..
