there was a car show in town today that had a mobile dyno offering 3 runs for $60 so i ran up to nick about two hours north of me last night to get a street tune (and btw he did an awesome job!) anyway got the gtp on the dyno and it pulled some weird numbers, 191 max hp and 474 max torque... yeah thats right i didn't mis-type!
Anyway right before i saw the numbers the guy running the dyno commented on how good my afr was, then when i saw the hp i said that cant be right and said well you got to account for drivetran loss and i told him yeah i know but stock gtps put that hp out and the torque should be closer to half that, and he responded with well we couldn't get a solid connection with your car and those cars are known to have connection problems and also said i probably have a bad tune so i responded with it was tuned yesterday it the same weather, and the tune was pretty darn good

    basically a waste of $60

Common. Most shops do not know how to get a tach signal.

Tach signal on 3800s is a b*tch to get for some reason. Tach signal is what's used to determine torque, so that's why yours is borked.
As for your HP numbers, I'm guessing there's something wrong with his program or your car.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

What....he's got a piece of paper that says 474tq. I'd put that one down as the best 3800 ever.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Even if it did work perfectly it was still a waste of $60... Its not like you make more power after you dyno it..

Wait... do you? I've been trying to figure it out because my luck's been hit-or-miss. Would be totally helpful if someone here actually had it down to a science on these engines.

Your torque is more than likely convertor flash. Did the same thing on my turbo GTP which dyno'd 364hp/575tq. Your horsepower is definetly off.

Havent tested it, but there is a white wire that is hidden in the ICM harness... might want to try taking it to ground, or just wrapping around it somehow... its the "legit" tach signal wire for the car.

Right.. that's the one that starter systems typically use if they are too lazy to crawl up under the dash.

Erk. That's the one I used. I think.

That reminds me of a guy who used to post on the 3000GT/Stealth forums. He was convinced he had the fastest NA 3000GT known to man. He had claimed to beat Z06's and the like all the time.

He went and got it dynoed and it gave him a stupid high hp number for his mods with a normal torque number. He actually claimed the hp number as legit even though there was absolutely no way possible for his car to be within 40 hp of the number. He even "proudly" displayed the dyno chart in his sig for awhile.

i dont think you were comparing him to me but ill go ahead and put it out there anyway! lol for the record i dont believe that is the true torque number for my car nor do i think my car has anything close to that number!
