ill try to make this brief, overkill pcm was tuned for me when my gtp was stock, the new setup will be headers/rockers/3.4/catback/intake. until i am able to get it custom tuned on the street is it WORTH IT to send my pcm back in to get re tuned?
is my current pcm holding me back since its tuned for a stock 3.8 pulley or not really? they no longer lock the pcms so its a solid base tune to go off of if not anything else

Don't street tune. That's silly. If you can get a quality dyno tune, do that. Otherwise, it's like $50 for a decent quality re-tune from Overkill.

idk how a street tune is silly? you can tune the car in real time, in real world conditions while under load unlike on the dyno where theres just rollers moving the tires..?Originally Posted by SlowNA06

dyno tune > shelf tune > street tune.
Street tuning is a good way to blow up your engine. It introduces far too many variables. Also, a dyno does not move the wheels on the car. That would defeat the purpose.

Ha.. shelf tune over street tune... Funny.. Shelf tune is generic tune made based on other scans of peoples cars (probably on a street in many cases)...
I would bet on many dyno tunes being a shelf tune with the engine run at its max output to tune the highest output of the engine only.. I doubt they spend all that much time tuning anything less then WOT. Unless you have a car only driven at a race track, I doubt you spend all that much time at WOT.
@Op.. Depends on what has been changed in the PCM already.. If it was a true stock PCM, I wouldnt use it with a 3.4 pulley..

Okay, clarification: reliable shelf tune > street tune by someone who's not already particularly good at it. Speculating on how these guys tune would likely put you in the wrong. I've seen shelf tunes do quite well at part throttle/cruise, etc., indicating that some consideration was made for it. Last I checked, all the big players here do it. It's your car, do what makes you happy.

Street tune is the best way to tune...are you kidding? Why do a dyno tune when all they do is tune the WOT aspect of your vehicle when out on the street you get every bit of everything possible in every condition. All dyno tuning is good for is showing what numbers your car will put out...it does sh1t for nothing unless you spend all day on it...then you still might not have good driveability since your only dealing with the WOT part of the tune...see? SO let me fix it...
STREET TUNING>DYNO TUNING>MAIL ORDER PCM>STOCK.

thanks for the responses guys..i guess ill just have Will re-tune my pcm and have a solid base to go off of, how he no longer locks his pcms so thats good.

get the overkill base then the street tune.
Other guy, you're crazy. Overkill or PRJ street tunes would most definately be much better than a canned tune.
