I am looking at buying HP Tuners for some things, but still want something to be able to read codes and such on cars without having to use HPTuners. There are tons of different options on Amazon. Which ones have you guys had good service from and which ones have been crap?

The ELM327 is pretty decent. Unless you want to spend the big bucks and get the OBDLink MX. I have both and if just reading codes and seeing some live data is all you want, get the ELM327...

ELM 327 is the chip that does all the work they are in every plug in dongle. That said buy the BAFX as the cheap ones on eBay and Amazon are a crap shoot.

Mine is a BAFX... Thank god...

Did think it really mattered who made it. I know people with the other ones and they seem to work ok but... for 20 bucks, BAFX is the best one.

Yeah, when I first got here I was looking for the same thing and bought one recommended to be by someone on here and got it from the same seller. I couldn't get it to connect to the Grand Prix. I tried it on my Park Ave and same thing. I then tried it on the Wife's Montego and it worked, worked on the neighbors Ram and a coworkers Acura TL and Mazda CX-5 and the company F-150 but wouldn't work on any GM. I then asked about one that works without fail. I spoke to the guys via email from BAFX and though theirs are made in China as well they make sure that they don't allow substitutions of components or the circuit boards. They said that's why a lot of them won't work on some vehicles. I lost my original by leaving it in a rental car. So I ordered another.
