Neither would reduce knock.
They are just larger to allow more air if the engine is able to use the extra airflow. Throttle feel can vary between them as well because of size/design.
Subbie is back on the build! After calculating all the Subaru specific parts that I've accumulated over the last year has convinced me to over ride the wife. Plus, it just seems like such a good idea.....
When its comes to toys wives dont have a say. Mine said she was leaving if I bought turbo, she lied.
ported the throttle body today...
Found a thin spot..... LS1 TB here I come. I think I'll keep the stock MAF but put it in the intake tube ahead of the TB.
Does anyone have access to the harness/ecm pinouts for the 03' gtp L67?
OK - got an issue, maybe. Putting in a new Melling oil pump and after torqueing it 96 in lbs freezes up solid. The old pump moves some what freely. The old pump cover does have some wear. I measured all the parts and they all measure the same. Does anyone have experience with this Melling pump (K195)? Maybe its the new cover with its phosphate looking coating?
You do step #1 correctly? Inside gear chamfer has to face oil pump cover.

Sure did... I tried the new gerator set with the old cover and it spins with a slight resistance. The old gerator set works with the new cover the same. The new gerator set and new cover locks up solid. I'm going to take it to the machine shop tomorrow and have everything mic'd to see where the issue is....thanks.
you may have gotten a plus-sized oil pump for worn-out timing covers
The Melling website only shows one option - off to the machine shop I go!
Fixed the oil pump - It was the inside gerator, took off .0005 and it work like a champ! Now I can say that the oil pump is custom and blue printed...
So after that fiasco I'm wondering about oil pressure. From what I understand the 3800 has an issue with the connecting rods not getting enough oil. Is this due to not enough volume, pressure, or both?
Connecting rods can egg over time, has nothing to do with oil. There can be oiling improvements made in the engine but meh.
You can increase oil pressure by buying zzp oil volume kit, or you can shim the factory cap some like 1/4" washer inside.
1/4" thick washer inside the cap? That's the way we used to do the old school SBC. Same principle I guess.
