    Two days without an update. Woah.

    Saturday/Sunday I modified the stock truck throttle bracket. It was hanging open at rest. Had to move it about 3/8" closer to the TB. That cut/weld plus a little screw slot action got me right where I need to be.



    Today I made the trip to Fastenal to drop of the 60e that came out of this truck. Going to Illinois.



    These little pieces came in the mail today.



    As soon as I get the -6 hose, I can complete the fuel feed, return, and vent lines.

    Pfft I think I went a week just then, lol. Your little zippy truck thang is coming right along. Ordering those fittings and such would drive me nuts! Plumbing is one aspect of the job where you can really take pride in your neatness and appreciate it on the road. Enjoy this stage as best you can, I know it can be frustrating.

    All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.

    I think I'm a weirdo. I like it. Figuring out all the different GM and automotive specific connectors. It just hurts that it's all so expensive. I've managed to penny pinch everywhere else. I estimate I'll have around $400 into plumbing for the fuel supply, oil cooler and trans cooler.

    I think most of it will be hidden, or at least difficult to see. The real craftsmanship will be in the harness. That will likely be the biggest challenge in this whole process. Switching the PCM location, and merging the S10 and Silverado harness...

    With my Paypal still flush with cash from the sale of the 60e, I decided to finally get one of the few maintenance items this truck needs. The ignition cylinder is pretty well worn out. Have to jiggle the key to turn it. Also, the passenger side lock cylinder is just plain gone. Got this whole setup for $75 from Ebay.



    And while I'm waiting for my fuel line, I started to tear into the S10 harness. Need to pull some pieces out to add to the engine harness.



    Originally thought I could just kinda surgically remove the pieces I need, but it's looking like that's not going to be possible. I'll probably end up labeling then de-pinning all the PCM plugs, chopping the grounds and working each individual plug/circuit into the LQ4 harness. I don't need a lot. Just the AC stuff, and the wires that feed the dash gauges.

    Fuel lines... Check!







    I just ran 5/16" vacuum tube for the evap. Figured that would be plenty sufficient. Plus I'm not 100% certain I'll even retain the evap. Hood clearance may be an issue with the purge solenoid. I should have enough -6 leftover to also do the trans cooler lines. That way, all the major fluid transfer lines will be braided stainless. Fuel, oil cooler and tans cooler.

    Absolutely. I have access to a Blackbear PCM that I want to read and use as a reference, but when I start getting serious about really dialing it in, I'll track you down!

    Speaking of tedious... I spent most of the day working on the S10 harness. Here's what's left. Should be just enough to control the AC and run the 4 gauges in the IPC.



    Next step is the LQ4 harness.



    Having these really helped.

    I'm curious to see his work sometimes. I've seen a few of his tunes before and they seems to mostly be cut and paste type tunes because it does so many of them. Half the time I don't think he knows what he is doing and I see the same feedback sometimes on another forum I am on.

    Aren't most canned tunes just copy/paste?

    More connections made; Heater hoses, brake booster, and the one and only vacuum line.

    my brothers got a black bear in car tune in his yukon. it woke the truck up for sure. the trans tune is nice too, hit the tow/haul button and its a perf shift button now.

    Yes they can be just cut and paste but when he offers in the tuning service with re-tuning ability where you log data for him and he makes corrections, that is where I see the flaws.

    It's so easy to make a stock vehicle perform better, it takes all of 15-20 small changes to make that happen. Lower power enrichment enable settings, lean out the overly rich EQ ratio for WOT, remove some torque mngt, adjust shift pressures and small nannys like that. It's when people cam engines or do other mods like headers, intake manifold swaps is where I feel the job isn't done well enough.

    Also the 4L60e has like 3 tables to change in the whole thing, shift time, shift pressure and torque reduction. I'd be scared for anyone that had a 6L80e or newer transmission tuned, they can be picky on nearly all changes made.

    This is the kind of stuff I'm interested in. Really looking forward to when the truck is up and running and I can actually play with a tune.

    Got some more parts today.



    That allowed me to run the cooler lines to the front of the truck in anticipation of connecting to the radiator.



    It's tight, but nothing touches. If it seems like I'm jumping around, it's because a lot of what I work on depends on the parts I receive. I didn't order everything in advance. I'm ordering things as I go. Kinda slows me down a little, but I'm not sitting on a pile of wrong parts, and it gives me time to research and reflect before every next step. Tomorrow I'll be back on the harness...

    Nope. Decided to do the ignition and lock cylinders. Pretty soon I'll be doing a lot of key-on/key-off troubleshooting and I don't want to be monkeying with a fussy ignition cylinder. Old one came out without too much trouble. Old vs new



    And back together. Nothing more satisfying than stabbing a brand new key into a fresh ignition cylinder, and this one didn't cost me a new car payment!



    Then on to the lock cylinders. Drivers side was super easy. There's not much going on inside the door of a base model '97 S10.



    And that's where my good luck ran out. I discovered why the right side lock cylinder was just plain gone. The whole handle is cast aluminum, and there's a little tab that retains the cylinder assembly. That little tab broke off and allowed the cylinder to fall out the back of the handle and into the door shell. The thing I can't figure out.... Where'd the lock go??? It wasn't in the door, and I didn't see anywhere it could have just fallen out. Did someone take the panel off just to retrieve the busted lock???

    So, it turns out S10 exterior door handles are dirt cheap on Ebay. Found a right side handle with lock from a '97. Buy it now price was $9 shipped. I offered $8 and the seller accepted. Should have it next week!

    Wiring...

    Spent a couple hours peeling this banana.



    Extracting all the unnecessary wires, and labeling the needed ones.



    C2 Block is empty. Feeling pretty good about this.



    Also made a trip to the junkyard. Pulled this "harness" with 8 EV1 injector connectors for $13. I should be prepared for the eventual injector upgrade.



    More harness work tomorrow...

    I will be building a bench like that in spring once the grill takes a permanent home on the deck instead of the garage.

    I have been browsing for vices. Whats with the aluminum stock under the vice? How do you have it mounted?
