Its not fast, but it is the most over-engineered, most reliable, comfortable, and just plain awesome.

I would take this car around the world if I could, most of these...have well over 300,000 miles on them. They just keep going.
I did 5-6 years in a Benz dealer body shop, worked on some of those. They certainly have a distinct odor, and go 300K. I did see where a guy took a G-class around the world and went ape with old school film cameras. Him and his ol lady lived in it basically. Where I hail from, wagons are called "stabbin' cabins". ha
Some friends/classmates of mine chose one of these for the basis of their theoretical bio fuel project in which you fill the tank up with used cooking oil and the car takes care of the rest.
This car in particular was selected because its diesel and has enough space to jam in a mini refinery.
Couldn't care how good it might be, wouldn't catch me in it if it were free!
I would drive one. In high school our auto tech class pulled the engine from a 300d(non turbo) and built a permanent stand for it so we could have a running Diesel engine in the shop. One of the science
classes made biofuel for the engine to run on too.
Car had 350k on the clock, engine was still strong but the floorboards were rotting.
