So I've saved up around 3500 for my first car since I've turned 16. I wanted to get a GTP but my insurance straight up said NO F/I or v8's.... go figure... So what I was thinking, should I buy a v6 firebird (98-02) and just do some appearance mods, and then drop an Ls1 or bigger from a trans am, etc. in it. OR buy a grand prix GT and mod it? I know we're all GP people here but please give me an honest answer thanks!

Buy a GTP or LS1 T/A f*ck the insurance company. Dont waste your time modding a GT or engine swaping a Firebird because of what your insurance company says. It would be easier for you to find a new insurance company then do all that. I had my GTP when I was 16 didnt have any problems with the insurance.

Cant you get it under your parents name and you just be on there as the primary driver? I never heard of an insurance company that told you what you can and cant get

Time to find another insurance company then. That's BS. If anything they'd be happy to insure you and just charge you out the @ss for the monthly premium.

Can't imagine insurance on 10-13 year old GTP being that bad, even for a 16 yr old.

    What ins. co. is this?

It's American Family, and unfortunately we just switched to them from Nationwide so idk how easy it'll be to switch to another. I heard Progressive was pretty good. Could I just have my own policy if my parents were to stay with AF and I go to Progressive?

Yea it sucks cause I could do that whole "Ya my dad just has two cars and I drive one" deal but for American Family if theres 4 cars in your household then each person must be assigned to a car.

My father has American family. Every single car is under his name and full coverage. Nearly 5 cars in our house hold? I pay him the amount I owe for car insurance. 55$ a month for full coverage...

I have American Family also. I've been under my mom's policy since I was 16. I had liability for the Jeep and the GP, but they never said I couldn't buy a GTP. I asked about it when I was car shopping before the GP.

And if they'll insure me full coverage on a $15k+ car at 19 I don't see how a 14 year old GTPwould be out of the question.

The more I think about it.... answer me this. Were you personally the one that spoke to the ins. co. about insuring a GTP, or was it your parents?

Get a gp g.t then topswap it. My brother did this with a mustang. Bought a 80 style 4 cylinder mustang the swapped a 5.0 and dropped it in. Insurance was cheaper that way lol

call the corporate office, something aint right with this, ive never heard of a ins co refusing to insure a car. if they think its fast or something they just charge more.

stay on your parents policy as long as possible.
and a top swapped GP GT is more fun. high comp and 3.29s.. god. it's nice.
so if you feel good with a wrench and know someone to get ya tuned right go for it.

going on your own policy is gonna suck..

but i do know from experience we were with progressive for years and they never told me what i could and couldn't drive since I was 15.

I was never on my parents policy and never regretted it.

As for an insurance company telling you they won't insure a V8 or F/I car, that is beyond ridiculous.
