Flip the gears in the trans, smaller pinion, larger spur, 1200mah 6 cell NIMH = slow bug with big tires.

Got bored today do to the rain. Decided to start modding the Stampede to hold the motor on the left, the motor on the right is the stock Titan 550 12T.

Welp got it through 4 tanks of the break in gonna give it 2 more tanks before I go into tuning it for normal running. I can tell already this thing is gonna need to be leaned way the **** out from where it is now. There are trails of nitro going up and down my street now. And thanks for the help last night Scott, you're a good man I don't care what anyone says about you.

The Firestorm is pretty fun does wheelies runs like a champ. On one of my bashing sessions I lost all low end power and could not figure out for the life of me why, so I cleaned it and put it up for the day. The next day I pulled it back out and was giving it a good look over hooked up my receiver pack and was checking to make sure my throttle and brakes worked when I looked at my throttle linkage and notice that something was not quite right. Turns out the stop collar had fallen off somewhere. So I used my ghetto rigging skills and some blue loctite on the set screw and came up with this solution.

I also made a lower chassis brace until I can find something a little more permanent.

Nitro is way more fun than electric that is for sure, but it does have its downsides, like $35 a gallon for fuel, more maintenance and cleaning, that nitro fuel gets all over everything.
    So far my plans are

    • 3 piece savage clutch
    • 21T Clutch bell
    • Tuned pipe, not sure which one as there are a lot of options
    • RPM Bumper
    • RPM A Arms
    • Integy upper deck brace(they are the only ones who make this part now )
    • STRC Steering Bellcrank
    • And some Traxxas Anacondas for street use, the stock tires are already showing signs of wear from running on the street.

Today was not a fun day at all.
Decided to do some speed runs with the MERV.
Halfway through run number one, one of my wheels fell off and I found this.

The little pin inside there broke, easy fix.

    Round #2
Apparently running into my foot is enough to break this thing.........Broke the chassis and the front bulkhead.... Made it through 1 and a half runs with it. Just a heads up Traxxas Mini E-Revo on 3S = money pit.

Got the MERV all fixed up. It's basically a brand new MERV now. Only things still original are the esc, center drive shaft, and the trans.

I would find its thread after I sign up, and long after I sold many rc's lol. Still have interest in them tho.

My first was a savage .21 upgraded with an XTM .28. Quick, and literally the most durable rc you could buy. Sold it, then didn't get back into it for about I years later down the road.

Bought a Traxxas Bandit VXL next. Fast fast 2wd buggy. Didn't trust lipo batteries at the time, so upgraded to an 8 cell NiMH battery pack. Went thru a set of tires every few weeks. Traded that for a duratrax vendetta because I had not room to run a 1/10 wide open. Then I sold that after I realized the mistake I made.

Next came the HPI Savage XS. By far the most fun rc I have had. As big as 1/10 scale, 4wd, and 3s lipo capable for 60+ mph speeds. It would do standing back flips on 3s, but 2s lipo was perfect power and speed. Put proline badlands tires on it and it would hook up to anything. Durable little bastard it was. Sold that after a year and a half.

Then bought a 1/8 ofna buggy. With an 1800kv motor and running two 2s lipo batteries, this was a torque monster. I could mow the yard if I wanted to. But top speed wasn't very high with the 1800kv motor. I wanted to upgrade to a caster 2200 or 2400, but couldn't spend that kind of money on an already $300 toy.

A few months later, I still kept the buggy, and bought an Axial Scx10 jeep. Pretty neat looking scale crawler. 4 link suspension, and the modifications were unreal. Well, money got tight and had to sell all my goodies...the ofna buggy, axial jeep, 4 lipos, lipo charger, 4 tires sets. You definitely do not get out of this hobby what you put in. I hope to get back into it someday. We'll see what technology will bring for the hobby years to come.

Merv is gone along with my Thunder AC60 balance charger and the 2 SPC Racing 3S lipos, ex girlfriend stole it and no one knows where she is.
1/18 Ruckus - Finally replaced the diffs for the 4th time
1/10 Ruckus - Castle Sidewinder gave up the ghost as did the 120a eBay unit. Not sure what happened to the Sidewinder, all it does is cog. The 120a eBay unit had a ton of very tiny rocks inside the plastic casing some of them were wedged into the circuit board.
Stampede - Needs a new motor and pinion. Pinion was in the box with the merv....
Firestorm - Needs new engine, snapped a connecting rod. ~$60 off DollarHobbyz

I'm having troubles deciding between a Traxxas E-Revo Brushless, A Traxxas Summit, an Arrma Kraton, or going cheep and getting a Basher Sabertooth.
The ERBE parts are available locally, it has a very large aftermarket, but it does need a lot of work and fixes to make it a good rc.
The Summit is supposed to be pretty awesome, parts available locally, very large aftermarket, doesn't need much if any work or upgrades from stock. I've seen a few videos of people who have owned their Summits for years and have them 100% stock.
The new Kraton is supposed to be very good, but parts would need to be ordered online and there is a limited aftermarket for it. Doesn't need much for upgrades.
Basher Sabertooth is the cheapest of the bunch, can almost buy 3 of them for the price of one ERBE, needs work out of the box, diffs are filled with grease, shocks need work, and tires are so so. Also like the Kraton has a very small aftermarket and parts have to be ordered online.

    ERBE - $649.99 + 2 3S batteries
    Summit - $549.99 + 2 2S batteries
    Kraton - $450.99 + 2 3S batteries
    Sabertooth - $234 + shipping +RX/TX + 2 2S batteries

I did want a 1/5th scale but I just do not have the space to run one yet alone store one.

Interesting thread. I sold my XXX-T electric earlier this year. That had some parts on it like a 12 turn esc. I couldn't believe when the guy immediately took it out in the snow. The same replacement was about $60. I sold the entire works to him for $100, lol. Talk about "Doh!"

I got this a bit later. Yeah, I'd really like to go 1/5 scale too ..but I downsized.

Until I saw this I forgot how much fun my little Losi was I have to get it back together. I bought the original little 1/32 scale truck and the Lipo battery. It's pretty fast and fun in the house. Have any of you guys messed with the little mini quadcopters? I have a Este (sp) that fits in the palm of my hand. It's a lot of fun to fly indoors.

I took the twin detonator out last weekend, both front shafts kept binding, guess its time for cv joints in the front so I bent them and tore them out. Kids battery looks to be shot too. Oh the joys of toys

The kid has that mini copter thing, zips around great indoors, havent tried it outdoors yet. I dont think he could manage it with any breeze

Cory, when you said kids battery were you talking about the one out of the 1/18 Ruckus? The esc's in those burn up really easy. I went through 3 of them before I went brushless. The $20 ebay motor and esc work great in that little bugger btw. You just need a RX/TX.

The stock power system in that truck sucks big floppy donkey dick. If you want to upgrade it this is similar to what I put in mine. The esc I bought only runs on lipos and is not available anymore.

Motor and esc http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-2435-480...YAAOSwP~tW2P2~ The esc is not waterproof but thats easy to fix with a ballon or liquid tape or plasti dip.

    Pinion http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pinion-Gear-...sAAOSwgmJXyOme

    RX/TX http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flysky-FS-GT...kAAOSwEeFVGPWA

If you want some Lipos you could give these a try http://www.ebay.com/itm/162172021091 As a warning these batteries are kind of hit or miss as far as quality goes, some people love them and have no issues other people have them last only a few cycles.

Just throwing some ideas out there.

I fired mine up today just to see if it still ran. It does but was hard to start this time around and smoked pretty good from all the dust/film burning off.

Transmission is still stuck in reverse and the servo batterys are dead after a few minutes. I need to take it apart and clean the transmission up or just remove the reverse gear altogether. And I am out of nitro fuel.
