It wasn't just any basic 3d printer that could make it. It had to be a pretty advanced one to even do it. There were very few people that even would have been able to do it.
This hysteria that creates the hyperbole and ridiculous knee jerk reactions that happen all the time anymore with respect to this crap. Just because INFORMATION is out there does not make it usable. It would be easier to concoct an IED out of readily available chemicals than even try to build a firearm from those printers or the plans.
It is very specialized and if you actually do a little, just a little investigation into it, you'll find very difficult to produce anything usable from the 3D printing tech, let alone a functional firearm. As for the ability for any lunatic to do it, well... Yeah, ok. 99% of the people out there wouldn't even know what to do with the measurements, then try to convert the plans from the format provided into cad that could be used by the printer, lmao... Those plans are not very usable except for the very talented and knowledgeable few! Unless of course start from scratch yourself. The fact that the guy made one and was able to video it functioning is amazing : )
But let me ask this, seeing as this information is available in PRINT form, do we remove it there too? How should the Gov't proceed there? Shouldn't they be more concerned as there is no ability to trace with printed material? What's the difference then? Do they now check every library and mandate removal of machining techniques that could be used to manufacture firearms? Register CAD courses with the ATF?
Do you know there's a moron legislator out there that wants to introduce a bill and make a law requiring serial #'s on these printers and registration and recording any who purchase them!... Soon, hacksaws, files and drill presses I'm sure. It's not paranoia, its not a movie, it's their own fear manifesting reality. For less than $100 and a few days, you could make a home made sub-machine gun. Yeah, it might jam... Lol, but it'll work. Yet they propose to make illegal the purchase of a couple thousand dollar investment to make a single shot firearm with little to no accuracy or fire rate that is completely detectable!
So, as I say, it's just knee-jerk reactionary political crapola anymore attempting and succeeding at formulating and swaying public mindset and opinion. Yes, to the weak and simple minded, it is brainwashing!
Lol... Sorry (rant), I'll stop now.
