i was looking at some past threads and i noticed that some people were saying they managed to get their cars up to 144mph but failed to mention if it has a chip or if the govenor was removed. my car seemed to give me a clear sign that im not going past 105mph and seemed to hit the shut off but that seems way to low to put on a grand prix gt. maybe i was doing something wrong. i kept the car in drive i was not manually shifting through gears does anyone know what the true top speed of this car is before hitting the shut off?

Lol why don't you just drive it as fast as you can an find out. As far as I know the governor will just cut the fuel back or something to that affect.

    Definitely not safe.

You should see some of the crap tires people put on these cars.

i did and it seemed the shut off was at 105 it didnt shut the car off it just decelerated me to about 80mph then let me go back. but it doesnt seem right. thats why im asking if anyone knows if theirs has ran faster. maybe my govenor is more strict.

Seems strict, yes. -- Limiters ive seen on these cars typically just hold the governed speed

    GT: 105ish
    GTP: 127ish

The dropping back down to 80 thing... I haven't the slightest clue. Mine would just hold steady at the governor speed (back when it had one...).

That's what a governor does Lol. I think it's safe to say the governor is set at 105mph. Btw if you have decent tires and can go in a straight line on the freeway IN LIGHT TRAFFIC you should be fine if you're not a spaz. I'm not saying be unsafe, sometimes you get an itch and if traffic is light than go for it. That's if you are prepared for possibly getting pulled over.

Honestly, governors are closely related to factory tire speed rating. Keep kiddies from destroying H-rated tires at excessive speeds, they're limited somewhere below 130mph.

Before I got a tune my car would top out at 175Km/h or 109MPH, now I've gone 20Km/h faster before I shut it down.

My other GP's also cut off at 109. It wouldnt just hold at that speed, it shut down. It didnt wait till 80 before it came back on either. My current GP, the gov is tuned out. I hit 140 something on a closed down air strip.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

Our GT would cut off at around 105 (I was 16 and thought it was cool)

factory GTP hit 109 before it cut out, would drop a few mph, then kick back in.

Modded GTP hit 155+ with V-rated tires. Never doing that **** again.

Straight as an arrow florida roads allow that.
So do straight as an arrow Texas roads.
Florida uses airplanes actively in speed enforcement though. Be careful out there, guy.

I think I hit 130 according to my hud one time but I slowed down right about then. Dunno if that's where it shuts off at. I voluntarily slowed down. Over 100 is too fast for me

My 99 Monte shut down at 112 IIRC, I would have thought that the Montes and GPs were setup basically the same now my GXP is stock and I had that going 145 a couple times but thats a different story.
