G8 advise

Hey everyone, looking for opinions on a new purchase. Im going to get rid of my GP and get a G8. Is there really a difference between a certified car or buying a non-cert from a ford dealership. Im looking at both sedan and GT. The sedan at a Ford dealership is 21,500 with 21,300 miles (something around that), and other sedan is certified is 23,995 with 22,XXX miles. The GT is 25,995 with 22,XXX miles also. If I don't go with the GT is there really a difference other than extra costs of a cert. on a used car. All 2009's. Im thinking sedan just payment wise but have no estimates yet. Then I think for 2k more for certified, I could buy the GT.

Any opinions?

iirc certified cars are eligible for a warranty or already have one. 2 grand wont make a huge difference in payments.

Keep in mind that both the V6 and V8 are known to have their own issues. The V8 develops lifter issues and needs them changed out due to the displacement on demand. The V6 Has timing chain tensioner issues due to the engine burning oil and the tensioner being high enough that it gets no lubrication.

Really? didn't know that. I've been looking at the g8 board lately but haven't seen much on problems but maybe I haven't looked hard enough. Thanks for the info

Get the GT. I regret not buying the one I had a chance to. Their value is only going up.

Get the GT. Yes it has it's issues but what car doesn't? You will NOT regret it, trust me!

LowRidinCrew Definitely not a fan of FWD nor my dad who has helped me with a number of mechanical issues with my 03 GP.

I test drove the GT and was awesome, going to look at a sedan today just for comparison but I might be sold on the GT. Thanks for the replies. Its $25,500 with 22k, black, black and red interior. Pretty nice condition. A sales woman at the dealership leased it so has been with them the whole time til she turned it in.

i hope you are crazy amounts of kidding. the 3800 is super, super easy to work on and there is tons of room in the engine bay. all LSx engine bays are cramped and not simple to do anything. so you are very, very wrong. also, have you looked at the cost of parts for any of the LSx platforms? yeah...okay.

I test drove a g8gt when new, loved it. They were asking too much + a high interest rate, picked up a bimmer instead... Anyways get the GT and a warranty. Absolutely worth it...

Intrigue98 recently got a GT, he loves it. Let me drive it, I thought it was an awesome car. PS..140mph comes up pretty quick.

I love my GT. I honestly would never settle for anything less from a G8.

If I could change anything about it... I wish it was a manual

It does have the notorious "rumble" while driving in the steering wheel that annoys the living daylights out of me, but the tires are nearing the end of their life, so they take part of the blame.

Plus, heck, 1 of 1,111 in the trim & color isn't a bad deal! Especially come show time!

Which Ford dealer? Some advertise "Ford Certified" and then "forget" to pay the fee to the insurance company. If you're thinking about paying extra for the car being certified check and see who pays the bill when something goes wrong. Buddy of mine in Genesee County is in court right now over a "certified" vehicle that really wasn't. Legal bills are already over $3000.

The GT i was looking at sold so i lost that one. Looked at a few other but pricey for high miles. The sedan i checked out was nice, priced good and low miles. I went with it for a number of reasons. My GPs hard shifting and long shifts slowly started at 100k and at 169k has only gotten way worse. Every week something else its something else taking up my weekend to fix so didn't want to keep holding off on getting something newer. And with a 16 month old with eating problems, food therapy, super expensive special meal replacement drinks, probably a smarter choice at the moment to cut where i can. Now just have to justify the sedan choice. Haha.

Thanks for all the info, opinions, would have loved to have the GT. Now after the new car feel wears off i will kick myself. Mystic, didnt go to the ford dealship but it was in brighton. Ended up getting it from Vyletel in sterling heights. Taz, thanks for the correction, I try to proof read but missed that one. On my phone now so who knows how this will turn out.
