Great looking dog.
Best dog I have ever seen is my girlfriends Aussie Shepherd mix, that dog is so smart it's scary.
He knows like 35 commands, knows all his toys by name, picks up and puts dirty laundry in the basket on his own, lets himself out of the house when he needs to, can play frisbee catch with the best of them and is 4 star guard dog.
Kids, snow, rain & cold doesnt bother him one bit, he will sit in the yard for hours hunting squirrels, its a riot.
If more people were like this dog I would be a much happier person
Ya he isnt done growing yet. his nickname is Monster and he knows it lols, but he is super nice, knows how to sit, stay, laydown, rollover, shake paw, high five AND his fav command is CAR RIDE! lols
week from 7 months and 75-80 pounds
long walk(pic heavy)
good stance picture
first time seeing a large body of water(off a small dock)
well he had to tell the water he was Boss
#1 fav thing to do is sit and watch anything moving
#2 fav thing to di is sniff
wonderin what the wife is doin
making him stay for scenery shot
TRUNK CLIMBIN MASTA
wanting off trunk
TREAT?!?!??!?!?!?
Ater 2 hours he still dont trust the water
THX FOR VEIWING
we go to the dog park and we see other people with male 6-10 month old male german sheperds and he so much larger then their pup and when they ask how old and i saw almost 7 months they are all like lols.
Then usually the second question is if he is pure bred lol, he is 100% GSD. he was also around 2 1.2 year old female shepherds, was as big as both and way more thicker, thats why his nickname is Monster lol
hahaha that first pict is awesome.... that just made my day.
Congrats!!!!
ddrrrr.... im a little slow hahaha

Get a cart for him now while they are cheap. All of our GSD's have needed them by the time they were 7-9 yrs old. Rear hip joints just don't take it very well.
He likes that tile where it's cooler to lay on. Can you touch the Mrs. without him coming to check out what's going on? If my wife has her back to me or is busy doing something and I walk into the room ours will get between us and make sure she knows I am there.
No i do the feedings, 2 walks a day, commands, etc. so im master to him so he dont care if im around the mrs.do you go to work while the mrs is at home with your gsd? prob why he thinks mrs is master.
but if im outside and people look concerned or scared of him he gets concerned also, gets all puffy hair on his back and starts huffin and gruntin lols, not everytime though, i think he has good instincts, i dont trust ppl he dont trust.
funny thing when he was a pup people would come a block away to pet dexter and say"AWWW SO CUTE" etc etc..NOW at 9 months, people cross the road a block away to stay away lmao, and he is the friendliest.
That is because people are smart and like the way their face is arranged and don't need no big azz dog changing sheet!
This whole thread makes me miss mine. He was only 5 and needed hip replacements on both and I couldn't afford the surgery... The local vet couldn't believe he was only 2 when he first started having problems... cold winter days would make him whine getting up and off the bed. By 4 he had a dog bed of his own because he refused to get up there, even on pain meds... by 5 he whimpered going to get food and I couldn't take it anymore. He was a rescue pound pup and I wish I could have done right by him and had the money to fix him, but being broke with bills I had no choice.
^^^this^^^^ is the reason you should only buy a pup from a breeder whos shows their dogs, not a pet store, all large breed dogs both parents should be hip certified Pryor to breeding, to help eliminate hip displeasure, its so sad when a good dog has such problems.
only real breeders "WHO CARE" (DOG SHOW PPL) WHO WANT THE BEST FOR THE BREED DO THIS. you wont find a back yard breeder paying for hip cert either!
find a local dog club for the breed you like, go meet the breeders, and their dogs, the pups will be very similar in their disposition and looks. unlike a pet store where the poor dog most likely came from a puppy mill, and has poor social skills right off the bat, and poor health.
when i had my weimaraner i also refused to have him fixed to keep him slim, so if you have a male and no female, leave him intact, his weight will be right where it belongs if fed and exercised properly to reduce the chance of hip displeasure.
the vet who put my dog down, (brain tumor) said that if not for the white face on my dog he would have never guess he was 12.5 years old, and that i did a great job keeping him fit.
and let me add rescue dogs do make great pets, they know they just got a second chance on life, most are house broken and know some commands. but you have no idea where or what they've been through, kinda like a old car.
ya i took my dog off puppy food at 5-6 months cause he was getting too monsterous lols.
he gets 1-2 walks a day if not he goes plays with other dogs or i play fetch with him either way i make sure he gets plenty of exercise. he wont be getting fixed untill 1.6-1.8 years of age.
my dog was off the puppy food at 4 months old, you dont want to grow them to fast, bad for the joints.
my dog hit 105 when he was like 2 or 3, so i put him on a diet, 1/4 cup less food per feeding, (he was getting 2 cups 2 times a day) and ran him like a fool. 5 or 6 times a day, till he was good and tired.
all my friends were like how can you give him less food, ahh duh, its for his own good, and no more cookies for a while, i used to have partys every weekend and the cookie box would be real low every week, so they got hid from my guests as he would do anything for cookies. i taught him so many stupid dog tricks. lol
after that he maintained a 90 to 95 lbs and was back to his 4 cups a day.
Yeah my Bernese Mountain Dog came from a breeder that was all about the hips. But she gave out a one year warranty with the dogs. If it had hip problems within a year you could bring the dog back and get another one. Now for people who show them i get it. But its not like im gonna give my dog away that ive spent a year with cause of hips! You get attached to them.
i agree, giving back a dog after a years not going to happen. but sometimes they will either pay for a surgery or part of it, show people for the most part care a lot.
i left out the best part of buying from a breeder, the thing is, not all pups are "SHOW QUALITY" the pups that have undesirable traits are sold as "pets" for way less than a pet store would charge, same guaranties applied, same good blood line, and could have champion show, or hunting or agility in its blood line, all comes back to the people who "show" their dogs just care more than anyone.
price wise, i got my weim for 600, every pet store had a poor 4 month old dog all messed up in the head, for 1400, why buy that dog when you can get a show quality dogs blood line, all the breeder will ask of you is to have the dog fixed @ 6 months old, as they dont want that dogs bad trait to join any other blood line. bad traits= a white spot over a 1/2 dollar size, front feet not straight out, any thing that is not up to highest standard of that breed, the dog is sold as a pet, for cheep to good home. it never leaves you.
and i did look into the route of buying a dog that would shown, these people wanted to SHOW THE DOG, and mean show it! i would have been dog less for over 1/2 the year and have to pay part of the experiences to show the dog, no thanks, ill pass. that dog was 2500 bucks too, great people and awesome dogs, but i cant afford that, emotionally or monetarily.
just about every state has dog clubs for most breeds of dogs, weimaraners have like 10 all around me, so i had my pick of show or hunting blood lines, the show ring dogs are to the max of the standard height and weight wise, and the hunting dogs are like 40 lbs, they breed them small so they can run all day with out getting tired, the show dog would be sleeping 1/2 way through the day lol i went show size, i wanted a BIG dog. and i dont hunt.
