Normally I like my cars with a nice shiny paint job, waxed rims your typical show car look. Lately though I've been getting more and more into modern cars with a rough or unfinished look. Some people would call these ratrods but I think that term just starts definition wars so by unfinished lets just say rust, holes, dents etc. Maybe it's just that I'm bored of looking at cars with paint jobs worth more than my car but the rough unfinished look is growing on me.

What about you guys, any preference? Does the rough look work for you or does it just turn a nice car into a PoS?

i know what you mean, i like the "unfinished" look too. i think it only applies to older muscle cars and hot rods though.

Ah, ok now that I can see. But on newer cars it just looks negligent.

    Agreed.

I think the look only looks good on cars from the 1950's and before, but no rust. Rust looks terrible no matter what.

Lol yeah guess I should have clarified that a bit. See I used to think the same way old cars+negligence=cool new car+negligence=well...just negligence but lately I starting to think the look can work on newer models too. I know we've all seen that love or hate it beemer thats totally rust covered and google is failing me right now for a better example.

theyre still called rats. works on some cars, but honestly... at least make it a fking sleeper and make it look stock.

unfinished i associate with all those fvcks who drive civics and/or other imports (and domestic) that just slapped a primed bumper(s) and some neons and think theyre all need for speed.

They do have intimidation factor....not because they look fast, but because they obviously dont give a chit and will run you off the road to win.

No way my grand prix has to be spotless 24/7 lol.Im having a hard time living with some of the underbody rust on mine.Plus my flakey peeling rear bumper . But i still care too much for it cosmetically, IMO it turns a nice car into junk.

i'm about to primer/lime green my truck, does that count? and drop it... a lot.

it's fun to see a rt every now and then, but for the most part, i like show car quality. even when it's a rat... kinda like the expression emo bands use, "it's takes a lot of work to look like you just woke up"

I have always wanted a clean flat black Nova/Chevy II... Even primer gray can look good. Rust, not so much. Rust is a cancer, it starts eating a car, and it takes immediate action to stop it from spreading and destroying the whole car. My GTP is a prime example, the rockers are rotted out, because some rust started under the GFX, the previous owner didn't realize, didn't keep it clean, and drove it year-round, and now those panels need to be replaced. Once they are replaced, they are going to rust out again, unless something is done to prevent it.

I don't like the look of rust on a car. Dents either. My Grand Prix has three small dents on the driver's door, they drive me up the ****ing wall. The horrible paint on the hood, rocker and quarter rust, and flaking clear coat all drive me crazy as well. A nice, clean car with no rust, no dents, no scratches, that's what I want.

the only 'unfinished' look i dig would be 'battle scars' or whatever you want to call them.

basically if the car looks like it's been driven and not 'showcased' im all for it. never been a fan of a car that looks like it's straight off the lot (unless it IS right off the lot)

its a car, it's going to get beat up. dont treat it like a girl treats her nails.
