While I do prefer v8's to boosted 4 bangers, the little 4 cylinder engines have a pretty good thing goin for them as far as consumer vehicles go. When you lay off the gas you get great gas mileage, but if you need the power it's there when you step on it. Not to mention the fact that the engines (and usually the vehicles themselves) are smaller and weigh less so it doesn't take as much power to move them. It's like a double-whammy.

Still though, I look at Hondas and other boosted 4 banger cheapo cars as a way of just going fast. To me it's like "big deal you took a tin can and boosted it", because they're just made for going fast but aren't actually "nice cars" per se. To me, going fast like that on the cheap is just rice. It's like NOS vs legitimate go-fast parts (aka gifts that keep on giving -- non-consumable). Kinda hard for me to explain, but the perfect expression will come. And when it does, it will sting like the bee! (kudos to whoever gets the bee reference)

P.S. With the way this thread is going, IBTL!

    In your face dood.

Reality check people...displacement power is a thing of the past. Does it still work and make power? Sure. But there are other ways to go about it and everybody has their own thing. Get off your horse.

yeah the SUPERCHARGED Cobalts were running 14s stock.
i guess not the T/C. Ive never seen a TC one go down the track in person.

and i know what u mean, i dont mind any car really. as long as its done right as said before. i wouldnt mind a civic but it would be clean as hell and it wouldnt be stock lol. . so when someone tried to tromp me in a V8, i would destroy em. it will shutup people who only think v8s are the best and there like unbeatable LOL.
plus ya driving it easy would get awesome mileage so its good. i like my GP but its a big car. i sometimes do wish i had a small car with equal or more power

i read a motor trend a few back where they had a focus that cost 200K ish and ran it against a stock Z06. well these days i'll just take two zr1s for that 200k price. you make make anything fast with a motor swap and lots of time/money/parts. at the end of the day its how you want to ride around. I'd rather drive a grandma grocery getter and be left alone unless i want to run someone, that be in a car with the stereo types that the civic carries. even if its fast, which this one is, you can never shake the fact its a civic, and the cops dont care how well the car is built

I'm gonna stick my head out into this one... Of all the views in this thread, I've noticed two types of views that are really the same here.
    1. All turboed 4 cyl will beat all V8s, because its a 4 cyl.
    2. All V8s will beat turboed 4cyl, because its a V8.

Really it boils down to what a person likes and how much they want to spend. If you really like brand X, then you might spend tons of $ on it to make it fast even though there is a faster cheaper option from brand Y.

Personally I don't care for Civics. I like WRXs. I like BMWs. I love Grand Prixs. Benz = Meh... All just my opinion. If you love Civics, fine, do your thing bro.

One thing I would like to add is that due to the nature of the 4-stroke cycle, a V8 is the most "balanced" and has the best potential for power.

Here's what I mean by that. Through the 4 cycles a piston makes, a 4-cylinder WILL create a good amount of negative torque at a certain point as the crank has to travel half-way around before the next power stroke starts. A 6-cylinder still creates negative torque but not much as there is about 120 deg of rotation before the next power stroke. An 8 cyl produces power every 90 deg and zero negative torque.

Sum total: In theory, a V8 is the most efficient in producing power. BUT in practice is where all the debate lies.
