Street racing is dumb.
I agree with local law that takes your car away if you're doing 50 over, but cops abuse it and can and will now take your car away if its pitched/making noise or if you even have one tiny squeak from the tires.
Now that I don't agree with. Sure, take the cars away from them, impound them, whatever. Charge the owner a HEAVY fine to get it back, or auction the cars off. The state is just losing themselves money doing this. Crushing the cars is just stupid, pains me to see it.
also I think that video was sponsored by honda lol, every car was a honda civic or integra.
wow, looks like a kid picking apart a model car. thats harsh though, alot of money for the taking being thrown away there.
I am 100% for it. Take it to the track. I was reading some comments on the videos and people were saying the police should sell the parts. Who is going to buy the parts? Most likely it will be someone who is going to street race.
Funny you say that. This past summer(shortly after getting the cobra), I was out with the wife in the cobra. It was a muggy afternoon, and it started raining while we were in the mall. To leave the parking lot, you stop at an incline, and turn on to a 4 lane road with a speed limit of 45. While turning out the rear broke traction, no tire squeal, just the sound of wet tire spinning on wet asphalt. It was obviously an accident, and the TC bogged the motor down within a second or two, ending the spin.
Some asshole cop comes speeding out of the parking lot and pulls me over. First thing he says "you in a hurry son"....yeah dumbass i'm in hurry, what the hell? Anyway he writes me a warning for exibition driving and tells me he's got my plate and will be keeping an eye on me. I guess he got tired of owning the donuts at the krispy kream shack and decided to own me instead.
i live in cali, and im modded and i had to go through hell and spend lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to get legal parts for this state so **** like that wont happen to my gtp. sure fine me if my car isnt legal, make me sell the parts and put the stock ones back on dont crush my car cause some assh*le who doesnt know what he is talking about made up some randon law that says basically for parts to be legal in cali they have to pay the state. Thats why TOGs are legal and SLP headers arent, in the state of california, stupid
I think loudness was the cause, most people wouldn't know the difference between a cobra and some everyday v6 that are everywhere you turn. And I don't consider Cobras nice cars. It's just another poorly built mustang with good engine and a t56.
EDIT: that doesn't change the fact that I'd still rather have it then just about any other car under the 50k range, or a z06.
i've noticed that as well.
loud gets attention.
But if you owned an older car, you'd be kinda screwed regardless.
Everyone expects the old cars to be driven by idiots.
The street racing where people cram a ton of POS econoboxes on to one street and take turns flying by bystanders is retarded.
One time, a 350Z pulls up to a small, saturday night meeting we are having with about ten cars. His buddy, and two guys on bikes pull in after him. Later an RX8, and a EK hatch come in to meet him too. Can you guess I live by a military base with said cars? lol. Anyway the first thing the Z owner says is "Who wants to race me?" He said he hadn't gotten any races since being stationed there. He instantly targeted my debadged GTP. Claimed he only had an intake and "lightening mods" and wanted a race. I refused twice.
After hearing about 30 minutes of his **** talking, he picks out my buddies 1998 or 99 Z28. It's ran as good as low 13s, pretty stout, nearly stock car. I tell him if he'll race said Z first, I'll follow with his gf and race him after. We knew of a good spot.
After agreeing to: first; a race with the Z28 and then a race with me, we start to go to our cars. We tell the other tools who rode up to stay behind. We would only be gone a few minutes. My friend pulls out, and I follow. SLOWLY. The 350Z, followed by a 3.8 Impala SS, followed by an EK hatch, followed by an RX8, followed by two crotch-rockets, all haul ass, burning rubber out of the parking lot. The sounds were followed by the "WHHHIIINGGG WEEEEEEEEEEN WAAHH WAH WAH WOB WOB WOB" of 6 engines displacing under 4 liters. We reach a light less than a quarter mile away, cross the light, and see cherries and blueberries. For. God's. ****ing. Sake.
He announces through the loudspeaker "ALL OF YOU pull over." We make the light, and both cruise out of there. The Impala and Z haul ass to follow us. I got rid of them at a light and went home. The bikes and RX8 pulled over.
People are just so damn stupid. Everyone should take street racing etiquette. If there was some way to weed the idiots out of street racing, the world would be a much better place.

So if a person legitly buys a different higher performance motor and puts it in a Honda in CA is that still illegal ? What if it's only used at the track? I mean what about custom cars and stuff. Does it all have to be signed off and certified by the state ?
And personally going through the trouble to see if a motor and transmission is stolen is ridiculous. Car theft is stupid the end, but really? What if they buy the motor from a yard and it happens to be stolen. I'm guessing theres precautions for these things but some of the stuff CA does is beyond me.
No lawn mower racing for me...
