Thread: who knows sbc's? i think i have to pull the motor...

So i have a 91 S-10 with an old school 350 smallblock and a th350 trans. and i'm learning the hard way why you don't buy a modded vehicle. it's leaking oil and tranny fluid like a sieve. i'm contemplating pulling the motor and the trans, to replace the gaskets and run new transmission cooler lines, and new fuel lines because the filter is 2 inches from the header. plus i wanna paint everything and make it look less... old. from what i can think of, there isn't much going into the cab, just three gauges and the ignition wires. anybody yanked motors before? what's it rank on the b!tch scale?

what about taking the trans out too? i'd like to try to hook up the speedometer and the only way i've really seen is putting a reluctor ring on the tailshaft

always good advice... there shouldn't be too many. only two motor mounts that i see, headers, radiator, tranny cooler. i just went out there and all the tranny fluid is on the floor. why does that truck have to be such a prick lol

SBC in an S10, may be easier to pull the front clip off, and lift the cab.

I have pulled so many engines over the years. Mostly in the last 12 years pulling LT1s out of B-bodys. It is always easier to pull the transmission first. A S-10 is very easy. Pull the radiator, unbolt the 6 transmission bolts, three torque converter bolts, header bolts, two engine mount bolts, and everything hooked to the engine. Easy peezy lemon squeezy.

the cab seems like it would be heavy...
a guy i was talking to brought up a good point, it would still be tough to get to the rear main seal with the trans hooked up. that's the whole reason i'm pulling it, to get the oil pan replaced and sealed up. i hope it warms up soon, the truck is so much fun to drive

Yup, you would also see an increase in MPG's. With Gas prices going up right now, it's hard to argue with that.
