My girlfriend is thinking about picking up this 03 Kia Spectra. I drove it around and tested everything out, it seems like it runs pretty smooth to me. Opinions? I hear alot of bad **** about kias, but it's just gunna be a small-town driven DD.

Yeah that's what I'm hearing, it rean pretty nice though. Plus the chick SUCKS at driving, you have no idea. Whatever she gets will NOT go more than 3 months without an accident. Hmmm...maybe I should check out the safety rating on these things lol.

actually Kia's have AMAZING crash test ratings! My girlfriend had a spectra when i met her and she loved that damn thing. The only problems she had was the filler neck was kinked from factory so it took FOREVER to put gas in it. Other then that it ran great and did awesome on gas for her till she totalled it lol. I'm a all american car guy, but honestly, i would not hesitate buying a low mileage kia... Yes they are built cheap, but there also sold cheap and you get what you pay for. They will last just as long as any cheapo econo box is made to. I wouldn't buy one over 100k cause i wouldn't expect them to last longer then like 160-190 or so, cause they are overall just cheap. But MUCH better then they used to be and i would still buy one over a Slowbalt or Fucus any day because of mileage and price!

03 Chevy S10- full bag setup on order, will drag frame in under a month

I'm gonna vote no. Only Kias that I have been in, have had issues. Both were relatively new (both still under warranty). One had a fuel delivery problem, that the dealer would never fix, (it would last for a few weeks). The other had issues with the tranny.

But they are cheap, and if you are not looking for a 250K might be a good choice.

We had one in the shop for a whole day trying to figure out why it would not start. Did not find anything, put it back together and it started right up. If you want to deal with **** like that all the time go for it.

The timing belts have to be changed in these so often as well, know a few who ended up with destroyed engines when the belt give out.
Just be sure if this has or has not been done if you do buy it.

    I want a kia soul.

It seems like you can find newer ones for really cheap. Probably a reason they're so cheap. Keep in mind resale too
