So what do you guys do when its winter time? I mean I'm sure most of you guys just go to the automatic car wash, but is there a certain temperature thats too cold to go wash your car. I don't want my car to become a giant ice cube haha.

Yeah, to cold is when you have to get out of your car to kick the automatic door for it to open b.c its frozen to the ground... its to cold to wash your car... made that mistake once with my talon went through the car wash and half way home my rotors where covered with ice and i couldn't stop.... but to prevent from being frozen inside of your car get out and wipe it down with a terry cloth or micro fiber towel
i just wipe my car down with warm water and a terry cloth. and some thick yellow rubber gloves to keep the hands warm. no point in wasting money.
Do it yourself car wash. I spray it down the exterior and the under body. Afterwards I use Eagle One wax as you dry and dry it down fast this includes whipping down the inside of the doors and trunk and these are prime spots for rust or your door becoming frozen shut. Then I use a clean and wax polish for the wheels to protect them from the salty conditions. I do this once a week and my cars have always looked brand new with ZERO rust to the wheels and body. Once it starts to warm up I jack my car up and check the undercarriage. If I see rust forming I scrape, sand and then spray with under body spray paint.
I avoid driving in blizzard warnings or bad weather conditions in general because the worst thing that can happen to your car is an idiot thinking his vehicle is immune to sliding out and can stop on a dime in any weather and ends up wrecking your car.
I go to the car washes with automatic wash with the blow dryers. Then wipe out the jambs to be sure the car doesn't freeze shut. Did it today. $9.00 w/undercarriage wash. Took 15 minutes for the wash and drying my jambs. The car wasn't spotless, but it got the damn road salt off and looks better.
Luckily i live where it never gets that cold I have issues with places to cold to wash a car
There is a 100% touch free wash in town, I go there. It is great since it also sprays the undercarriage. Otherwise, rinse-free washing in the garage.
i wash mine in our full detail area at the body shop whenever i feel like doing it!! HAHA!
hrm i just thought about this, i have an insulated garage with a propane heater and a garage drain right under the car, if i did a non pressure wash of some kind, like without a nozzle on the hose i might be able to do it myself. would need to run a hose from in the house tho. anyone have suggestions?
probably if your outside hose freezes. but DO NOT use warm water at all if your gonna try this. Our pressure washer at the shop sits right around 110 degrees or so and we've shattered a few windows this winter already, pull em in at 1 degree, and take them right to the wash bay and POW! Whatever, most were totals anyway
Yea, I never take my car to a regular car wash since I've seen what happened to our Trailblazer. Scrathces all over the place because of the damb brushes they use. I only take my car to this one specific touchless car wash, and it does a pretty good job, even though it rips me off on drying time. It says 30 seconds and my car is drying the back with 20 seconds left and it shuts it off... anyways...
Also if it's to cold to wash, I always just make sure there is no snow anywhere on my car, in the wheel well on the hood, lights, anywhere on the body, I just wipe it off with my gloves, I make sure there is no ice either.
wiping down with water only?
Something along the lines of this:
Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine: clay lubricant, optimum rinseless wash, no rinse car wash, optimum detailing products
i was thinking the same thing only not salt farm dust and dirt
Yea ive live in colorado and a few other snowy states thats why im in cali now hate the cold and ice Try'd florida but hate the humidity altho i did enjoy drinking margaritas sitting on a beach xmas week when i was there
