I was wondering what is your opinion on buying a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with 220,000 miles on it for $2,000, the body has somoe dents on it but I have bad credit and the car looks like something I could work on fixing it up to be what I want, for about $2,500 body work, if engine holds up for me should get another year or so out of it, and then a rebuild $1,500. Worse case tranny goes out too about $1000 rebuild.

So I could have a new car for $7,000 but made like I want and no payments and plan to keep it until 2015.

I can drive now and fix on as I go, but should be fairly reliable.

Skipping all of my fantasies for the car, would you buy a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT for $2,000 with 220,000 miles and fendor dent, and regualr scratches, and minor hood dents?

    LOL...NO! http://www.grandprixforums.net/f71/my-800-gtp-build-thread-23100.html

thats my 800 GTP with 218k....it will have front end issues no matter what. So plan on atleast 300 in parts for both hub bearings and maybe a tie rod end. There will be other issues for sure and 2k that thing better be 100% perfect with a warranty!

    WOW!

    Raped!!

Don't...if that thing costs $2,000 they're insane. I'd give em a grand...MAYBE. Good luck shopping for one and LOOK AROUND...IMO driving around and going about 100-200 miles for the better deal is always good in my book.

It does not have a warrenty. All the cars I looked in this area 64068 within 100 radius are going for like $3,000 with well over 160,000 miles on them and are all Pontiac Grand Prix GT's. The Grand Ams are going for over $2,250 and that is for a 1996 model. When I look @ the Grand Prix GT's they easily in great condition go for close to $5,000 GTP's you are lookig @ $6,000-$8,000
Used 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 160,405 miles $4,288
Used 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Sedan 158,935 miles $4,995
Used 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT Sedan 140,067 miles $3,995
Used 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Sedan 130,889 miles $4,850

Do you see the prices I am dealing with?

This is the cheapest and since I was going to paint it, put dimension fenders and hood anyways the dents would be gone Used 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT Sedan $1,950. For the price of those I would save for engine rebuild & tranny rebuild which may not be as high as I have.

That is exactly how I want mines you have a beautiful car. My hood would be Diminsia with fender flare by Dimensia. But very close with tent and light, and chrome exhaust. I figure if I paid $2,000 stuck $5,000 in it I would get close to

    $6,995

Instead os spending money all at once and huge car note.

Remember guys my credit rating is like "Zero". I pay 55% of my income in child support, so a real car note would kill me.

I posted some prices of cars in my area, I guess the Mod. felt they were wrong, I thank the Mod, because he keeps junk out. But if he could post the prices, you will see a Pontiac GP GT runs about $3,500-$8,000 around these parts, Avg about $4,995 with 160,000-170,000 miles. Well you folks gave me some sound advice and I will do that, I will check around. I want to thank you all for taking the time to respond. I really do appreciate it. Oh I checked Kely Blue Book it says the seller was pretty close to fair price for poor condition car. But if you guys figure I can do better, I will follow your advice. I will make a posting on some other car by Monday or Tuesday.

blue book is also way over real world dollar value. I know i can pick up high mile gt's all day long around here for 800-1800 without an issue. But like you said every area is different so just keep your eyes open and watch craigslist. And like blue said, sometimes its really worth a good drive to not end up with a overpriced POS

OK, I just thought I would mention there is a 30 day warrenty on the one I wanted, but will keep my eyes open. Thanks for your help again, I just want a GP GT so bad, but I can wait a bit longer.

OK what do you think about this car:

127k miles, runs great. AC works. Clear Title. Body has misc dents and damage all over. Fix it as a project or just drive it like it is. Charcoal leather interior is in average shape. CD player works but screen is burnt out. Has steering wheel controls. Drives good but front wheel bearing is starting to make some noise and the front rotors are warped. Tires are ok but are mismatched (all the same size). I put 2 new doors and bumper cover on the back but have lost interest. It didn't have any serious single impact damage just a lot of strange misc damage. Pretty much every panel needs some sort of attention/paint. I do have all the lower moldings missing in the pictures. If you want more/bigger pics let me know.

I could of hooked u up on a gp man if u stayed near me. I could of bought a lightly modded 01 gtp with 118k miles for 2600. Another guy on craigslist was selling a 99gt with 157k for 1800 bucks. Another good place to check is your local auctions that go around your area. The guy that was going to sell me the gtp for 2600 told me he only paid 1800 bucks for it at an auction. Just gotta know where to look at around the right time i guess.
