If you live in Ohio, please sign this petition against the "Monica Durban Law", Ohio House Bill 191.

    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/aut...ica-durban-law

The bill is presented as a law to crack down on street racing by introducing new, stiffer penalties, and creates a new charge, "Street
Racing Manslaughter". While I am all for stiffer penalties, the law also includes an expanded definition of "street racing" that includes:
Sec. 4511.251.(A)(1)(c) Any exhibition of speed or acceleration that is inconsistent with the normal operation of a vehicle on a public road, street, or highway.

This leaves so much room for interpretation that a law enforcement officer could easily arrest and jail a person EVEN IF THE DRIVER HAS NOT VIOLATED ANY CURRENT LAW. The simple act of speeding up to pass a slower vehicle, or accelerating harder away from a light than absolutely necessary, or taking a corner or turn harder than an officer feels is needed, can now be considered to be "street racing" as defined by this law. The potential for abuse is horrendous, and this law MUST NOT be allowed to pass with this section included.

The new Bill would also REQUIRE the seizure of any vehicle involved in "street racing", with no sentencing discretion given to the courts.

The summary of the bill that is given to each Representative or Senator:
    Laws, Acts, and Legislation

The Bill as written, with full legalese intact:
    H. B. No. 191As Introduced

we've got that "exhibition of speed" law here in Nevada --- and it can end with a license revocation ---- not the loss of the car, however. That's BS.

We've got the same law because dalton mcguinty is a **** and is only in office because the conservative leader was a twat...

Anyways, those laws are stupid, the only thing it should prevent you from doing is say go a certain speed over the speed limit. or if you're obviously racing someone, then you get impound, liscence suspended and some stupid fine. OTHERWISE, it should be standard tickets and all that BS.

Thanks kfish, some people just don't get it.

Charles, I don't street race. I don't particularly mind if people who do street race lose their cars. But this law will make it possible for any cop in a bad mood to completely destroy someone's life for speeding. Way too much room for abuse.

this is about a law left way to open to where people can be charged but really do nothing wrong in the eyes of why this law was made

I signed it. Complete BS. When I'm on a 4 lane and begin to overtake a tractor trailer, I speed up, usually breaking the speed limit because I feel its more dangerous to spend 1 minute beside a big rig than to speed up to 10mph of the limit for 10 seconds. So, I guess I would be "street racing" then. It's just a bunch of lawyers trying to fatten their pockets.

NO, you don't understand legislative bodies.

They are not about reason. They are about power and abusing the people they are elected to represent.

Racing, street racing, drag racing, careless driving, reckless driving, all are covered under existing statute.

As is careless driving by way of cell phone use. Their mission is to pass more laws, more laws, more laws, until the USA more closely resembles the UK or Russia.
