ok so i have been trying to figure this out. ok so chevy uses the 5.3 liter v8 in there trucks. they have 300ish hp. but Mitsubishi has a 2liter that has 360hp. and ford has there 4.6 with 260ish hp. but now there are the new 3.5's this 300hp.

i just want to know why all this is. why would we use v8's when a v6 has as much power or more. or a turbo 4 has more than a v8 and v6 some times or haw a V12 can have as much power as a corvette v8?

    how how how

yea that is it just wanted to know!

    thanks

its not all about horsepower... TORQUE is the key.

I imagine that each engine creates torque and hp at different rpms...

They new v6 makes that much power because its GDI. Gasoline direct injected. The injector is right in the combustion chamber like a diesel. Also a million other things effect it so It would take a series of books to answer your ?

Well honestly a v6 isn't gonna pull like a v8. Every different engine had different characteristics. My gtp ran a 14.1 last time I ran it. BUT, a stock 04 gto with the 350 LS1 motor is gonna pull a whole lot different. I consider our cars more peppy then beefy like a v8 with their torque

Tuning capabilities as well on the newer cars, like our PCMs only have 512kb of space to write to, some new cars have as much as 36mb. New technology = performance + gas mileage.

It's cheaper to stick a heavy pushrod V8 than an advanced V6 in there.

My 5.3 V8 is much more advanced than the 240/260hp 3.8's we all run.

There are many many differences. The 5.3 in my truck for example is quite detuned and meant to pull a house whereas these cars etc will not do the same as well.

Here's a good test, put 2000 extra pounds in a truck and it'll perform as if that weight isn't there, pulling etc. Put that same weight in one of these cars you mention. Beyond the obvious suspension, the car will have a lot of problems, yet HP and torque are there...right?
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Most diesel big rigs make under 300hp, but pull 40tons at 80 mph. With that being said, the only way to compare two engines is measure the tourqe at the same rpm.
Anthing else is like comparing watermelons to grapes.
