Damn its sad...I've always loved pontiac. I suppose that why I don't wanna get rid of my GP now.
This is pretty sad. It means my whole family now owns extinct GM vehicles. Mom an Oldsmobile Silhouette, Dad a Saturn L200, and me a GP
Pontiac was the best GM brand in my opinion becuase it was the only brand that tried to stay true to it's roots, minus the G5 and the whatever they called the Aveo thing.
What about the Vibe? And the Torrent? Or the Aztek? Pontiac has been off for a long time. As of their final days, they no longer had any original cars. The G8 was a rebadged Holden, the G6 was a rebadged Malibu, the G5 was a rebadged Cobalt, the G4 was a rebadged Aveo, the Vibe was a rebadged Toyota of all things, and the Solstice was a rebadged Sky. If the G8 had been rebadged into Chevy, you can easily say that you can still buy all the same cars just with different sheet metal. Nothing would be lost.
^^ totally forgot about all of those. Wow, what was I thinking. Okay, I lied, Pontiac has tried to stay close to it's roots... but not recently. There that's a little better. I just feel that Chevy is all about trucks and and has always made terrible cars, Saturn used to make cheap cars that anyone could own, but recently started making the european versions that were way more than the early saturns, granted they are also a lot nicer than early ones, and buick.... well it's just for old people and the chinese. Pontiac was founded on the muscle car philosophy and had the great John Delorean designing cars in the early days and I feel that that's the way they are going to end it, with a RWD modern muscle car.
Chevy has the Corvette and now the Camaro again. Both are original and unique, which is more than Pontiac had going for them. The Malibu is a great car (just sit in one, it's a step ahead for GM and their interior design), and then there's pickups too. Don't forget the turbo Cobalt SS, which I may think looks retarded as hell it's still a stud engine just in a not-so stud body (kinda like GM's version of the SRT-4).
I'm not dogging on the Pontiac of old, but the modern Pontiac had been living off the crumbs and scraps of what the other divisions of GM had been developing for a while.
Yeah, I guess your right. I guess I'm just being blind and in denial in my time of sorrow. haha. Hopefully GM does have something up it's sleeve for vehicles with the sleek pontiac styling and "driving excitement" geared market somewhere in the remaining brands.
I hope so too. I'll always have a soft spot for GM and I really hope they turn things around. I would like to own another GM someday, but they need to produce things that are competitive on a global scale for me to want to come back. I have faith in them though. We'll see what's up in five years when the STI is paid off.
Sabrewings is right.
Pontiac was its own identity in my opinion, when they had their own engines, etc. Now its just another rebadge fest. Dont get me wrong, Im sad to see Pontiac go too, all their cars looked really good, but its gotten about as bad as it couldve gotten.
Also dont forget about these.
Grand Prix = Monte Carlo/Impala
Bonneville = Lesabre
Sunfire = Cavalier
Aztek =
Like I said Pontiacs always looked good, but its been a useless division for a while.
i agrreee the last years sucked all they did was rebadge other cars =[ what happened to the old pontiac
Pontiac was a great company. I think the one thing they did right all along was the GP. See how far it's come? 7 generations of the model and it came a long ways. I have the 06 and I love it. It is stylish, luxurious, and still has power and potential.
if GM can get enough ground again they can bring the pontiac brand out of bankruptcy and continue to use it, it may take a few years, but it could be back.
doubtful, but possible.
also if they bring it back it wont be the same.. it cant hence why they left it behind in bankruptcy. a chapter 11 is the best way to shed some dead weight and still have the potential to pack it back on later lol
hell, once they get enough cash back i wouldnt be suprised if they buy back the brands the sold off (hummer/saturn)
Well I beleive the last, truely great pontiac was a lil something called the trans am. A 2002 ws6 was the final amazing Pontiac
