I grabbed my wifes camera the other day and plugged it into my pc via USB, instead of hers that has the software. When I turned the camera on, the pc automatically downloaded the pictures to the desktop.

I am using WIN XP if that helps.

yea i have windows vista... i feel like ive tried everything and it doesnt wanna work. i even bought a card reader and i plug it in and click the removable usb drive thing in my computer and it says it needs to format it. im not doing that because it will delete all my pictures on it... which would defeat the purpose of trying to upload them

    Vista is easy as hell.
Just plug in the camera, dont touch olympus software. A what do you want to do box will pop up after a few soconds of plugging it in and turning it on, click transfer photos from camera. Done.

    No you can't. Trust me.
Most of the things in the computer (touchpad, webcam, sound card, wireless internet, etc.) are made for vista, therefore you wont be ab;e to find XP drivers for them, and half of the things in your computer won't work.

Oh it's a laptop??, well then ur screwed with the xp part, i've tryed so many diffent ways and times to put xp on my step moms laptop and failed every time. They just won't make xp drivers anymore. It's too bad, XP was the best microsoft OS ever. You could back up ur crap on a external hard drive and then put Ubuntu on it. If you do, make a like 7 GB partition for the OS then make a second one for all ur stuff incase u want to go back to vista.

Ubuntu is the ****, everythings so simple and nothing ever crashes. No viruses. It's like a mac that doesnt cost $1,500 lol. Think about how cheap computers would become if manufacturers started preloading them with ubuntu.
