I think I read online once where somebody asked the guy who designed the Grand Prix 1997-2003 years what it means, and his reply was "nothing, it does not stand for anything."
But I always like threads like this.
SE = Stripped edition
GT = Grand Touring
GTP = Grand Touring Performance
~F~
GTP is a racing class in IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) that stands for Grand Touring Prototype. They also have GTU (Grand Touring Unlimited) and GTO (Grand Touring Omalagoto, not sure of the spelling on that one but it's Italian for homolagated which means a larger engine in a production car).
You guys do know that the GP GTP model was around before the 97 model year right? Frequently it cracks me up that most GP owners think the 3.8 SC motor was first put into the GP.
And if you want a good one to ponder, SSEi... it really was sent in and asked of GM to explain. The response was an honest, it's a model name that doesn't stand for any abbreviation.
