  1. Hey man this definitely helps thanks alot!
So I did already get one of those block test kits from Amazon, and checked for the combustion gases from the radiator and I was all clear! I still worry I even did the test correct though..but I'm pretty sure I did. Will probably do another one soon just to be sure.
As for the leak, I still haven't found it so I guess I'll order the dye and uv light. I have a feeling it's my lower intake manifold though. It does seem to be rather gunked up with oil/possibly coolant. Do you think that could be the cause of the small leak? I already have all the gaskets so gonna start that job soon too. How important is it to chase down this small leak and get it fixed? Like I said I never overheated before.
Today I noticed my upper and lower hoses collapsed after idling for a bit and turning engine off...and found out my radiator cap was broken so I'm thinking that's why my reservoir over-flowed before?
  2. If you think you have a head gasket leak, the most definitive way to check is to get the coolant checked for combustion gases. This is done using a kit that has a liquid that changes color when/if combustion gases are passed through it as draw from the cooling system. You can either find a shop that does this, or find a source that sells it to the public.
Another way to check for possible head gasket failure is to remove all the spark plugs, keep track of which cylinder they came from, and look for a perfectly clean one (steam cleaned from the coolant), and or wet with coolant.
Another way is to check the oil and look at the color, if the oil is tan or butterscotch color, there is water in the oil, and possible bad head gasket failure.

To check for a cooling system leak, try putting UV dye in the coolant, then search with a "blacklight" after running a while under pressure.
Sorry it's been a while to respond, hope this helps.
