Right now, I am building a DD with "some balls" I am basically replacing parts and systems on the car that need replaced with upgrades. My philosophy is silmilar to yours, in that I like to over-engineer. Example-if I need a shelf to hold 100lbs. I will use 300lb. anchors, that way I know I will never push the hardware to it's limit. BTW, the thread I have been following for mods IS the "safely modding your 3800" GREAT WRITE-UP in my opinion. I am glad that there are people on this site that help me out, like you!! Thanks for the advice Jason, and I will be "talkin" to ya soon!

The bottom ends of these engines really don't have a lot of issues other than spinning bearings for no reason whatsoever. So, I doubt you would have a ring issue. Oil ports getting gummed up could happen, but I believe it would take a serious amount of neglect to get to that point. So, you're narrowing it down slowly, which is good. I know you had plans for the vehicle. You might want to write them down and start asking good questions and doing a lot of research. My build was done with basically a tried and true setup...in other words, my engine is bulletproof. However, the trans has issues that I was unaware of and am searching for a replacement. It's best to make a list of what you want, what your goals are, and go from there. The forum is not always the best place to start throwing new ideas around, but there are a bunch of us here who like new ideas and if you can find the others, then you have a great group to bounce ideas off of and have a really nice build.

Compression numbers seem to be right in the ballpark of where it should be. I would think valvetrain/ignition/fuel related. One of the best things you can do if you open it up is to replace the dumb stock lifters. They get noisy over time, and why not get rid of them? Cost $110. Swapping fuel injectors around can also help isolate random misfires. That costs you nothing. Recommend running some Seafoam treatment through the intake and put some in the fuel tank. If you have and issue like an injector getting gummed up, this may be helpful. Also, it will help remove carbon deposits inside the engine. Can't go wrong with that!
