Well doing a steady state cruise at 65 the temps should drop, not dropping would mean that the fans are doing a better than 65 mph air, either that or the coolant is flowing so fast through the radiator that it doesn't have time to cool.

I don't know if the 9C1 radiator will bolt in place of yours, I seem to remember something being different on the transmission lines on 04+ You might need some adapter fittings or something like that. The fans would go in easier with the 9C1 radiator for sure, since 2 of the 3 bolts would line up instead of none.

Wait, so once you get to 215* and you're cruising you stay there??

Yup, it slowly climbs until it gets to 215* by that time I exit and get back into traffic and the temp starts to drop. It's difficult to get a long steady state cruise for very long. When the temp is below 80 it's not a problem. I just started noticing it when the temps started getting above 90*

Booba, do the 9C1 fans have the same pattern (Fans) and connector? I want to do that as well (maybe) and if the 9C1 Rad won't drop in place I'm not going to make it fit. Someone once told me a 4 core Caprice rad would drop into a G-body and I ended up with a sawzall to make it fit and ran with it until I bought a new core support and a heavy duty 4 core from my local rad shop, just had them put in a new core with my brass tanks. Thank goodness for brass tanks.

So I have started to notice that my radiator may be a little too small. Back when the temps were in the 80's I didn't have any issues, but now that the temp is right at 100 it's starting to show. I do fine when in traffic and start to heat up at freeway speeds. In the morning it's not an issue but seems when the temp is over 95 it won't cool the engine. When I looked the other day I saw that the radiator is only about 5/8" thick core.

    7-28-15

Today's ride home, traffic heavier than usual 99* Figured you had to have the gauge active to get the speed to show up

So I decided to go to the shop to work on my car last night, it's having some issues:

Needed to replace the trans dipstick tube, kinda thought I did, but it was in the trunk so I guess my CRS is kicking in.
needed to install my boost gauge
try to figure out what the deal with the locks and door panels was they seem to be sticking.
figure out what the T-tap installed into the light stalk harness was going to. Turns out it was a brown with black striped wire was run to ground at some point and then cut.
clean out the everyday crap that accumulates

So I took a couple of logs, I left at 9pm and it was about a 20 minute drive and was 90* when I left ran AC

Then the the car in the shop:

found $2.82 in dimes pennies and a nickel, some receipts from 2010 from Sonic and some trash, still not sure how it got there. It was between the door panel and door. As soon as I started snapping the clips loose it started coming out.

    The drive home:

Removed the old dipstick tube and went to install the new one while jacking up the car enough to get to it. Bad idea ended up with a 3' diameter puddle of trans fluid under the car. Ended up dropping the car back down and installed from the top went in easier, topped off the fluid after and went home. This morning I had a 6" diameter spot on the concrete. I wiped everything down last night so hopefully it's just remnants of the leak, I was not able to find a replacement seal from any of the parts store.

The locks seem to be an issue they seem to be weak on all corners, sometimes. I'll look into that more later.

I found no evidence of a previous alarm but need to see why someone had the brown/black wire attached to ground going to look at the schematics Booba gave me.

as far as alarm information there is info on the 04' and 06' but can't find anything on 05' and neither seem to completely match.

boost gauge went in without any issues.

your temps are 100% normal for a car with a 195 t stat and stock fan settings. hell i hit 212 the other day in traffic and my fans are tuned to 180 with a 195 t stat.

its always gonna want to be running at 210. gm engines seen to fight to run that hot to. they like it im saying lol

for the most part most of my cars all ran at 210, or 225.

That's the thing I'm running a 180*. I realize that I am still on using the factory fan on temps of 219* but my fans are on all the time since I constantly run AC so my fans are on until I get to temp where they turn off (about 35-45 mph according to Bill). I'm going to put the 190-195 back in it. Last nights temps were what I call normal. Earlier in the thread there a few back and forth to work deal with the temps at 99* range but if you look at the graphs before I was able to put speed in there as a reference I used the IAT to indicate relative airflow the cooler the IAT temps the faster I was going. Now I'm one graph you can see that my temps are in the 190* range and as I enter the freeway and cruise at 65 mph then the temps start to climb all the way to 215* while running down the freeway and didn't come down till I slowed and the fans cut back on because the AC was running. There's no way for the temps to come up unless the rad is undersized, the coolant is flowing so fast as to not remove enough heat until it equalizes, which may be beyond the operating of the equipment or coolant isn't flowing properly through the system. It's got a new water pump and a new radiator but it's only 5/8" thick.

see at those temps the t stat never closes. then your running pretty much no t stat and the flow just goes round and round and never cools whats in the rad. why a 180 is so dumb in my eyes.

That's why the 195 will go back in order to prove it out. I'll put it in tomorrow afternoon.

its still gonna get that hot when its that hot out side. but at least its got more control of the engine temps for longer.

you need a tune for that puppy. trans tune alone makes the car more fun.

I know I need a tune but it seems the 05' is thr redhead stepchild of tuning. Reptile said he can do an 04' but didn't hear back from him. I don't want to send across the border. And I haven't had the time to meet with my buddy. Really don't have the cash for it at the moment. My whole point is that when at speed the temps shouldn't rise. I'm going to put the 195 in tonight.

if you had a tuner. dhp supports up to a 05 gp.

Reptile told me he could only do up to 04' with DHP and he would have to get credits for HPT and wasn't even sure he could do it. It's on my list. But I'm going to dyno it before I make any modifications. TBH I think it will be late in the year or early next year before I do anything radical.

thats only because his off board wont work right with a 05 pcm. but works with a 04 fine.

going through a 05's obd2 port its fine.

I'll check into it a little more later but right now I just got back from a run around the block got to see a couple of little econoboxes race and it ended up in a nice wreck.

I'm still looking at all the options and figuring them out I see Tiny Tuner, HPT and the defunct DHP. I'll talk to him again about doing my 04' computer. I'm still running it, I keep saying I'm going to change it but then getting distracted.

Here is the first run after the 195 install. I drove the car about 6 miles then stopped in a Walmart parking lot and let the temp cycle a few times then drove back but watched a couple of econoboxes fly past me at close to 100. The kid in me said "kick out and show them what fast is, but the adult in me said just watch and wait they are going to wreck." Sure enough one of them lost control and ran over a curb, U turn sign and ended up all the way against the opposite lane under the underpass. No one was hurt, but the guy jumped out telling someone that stopped that someone ran them off the road. I laughed and drove off and made a few more loops back and forth on the feeder road (Frontage rd I guess for you northerners), then drove back to the house. I kicked the AC on acouple of times but most was just no AC it was nice out, about 85 or so.

This was on the way to work.

On the way from work, stopped at a pawn shop for a minute shut the car off then onto the freeway. It stilll climbs when I get up over 55 mph. I still think this Rad is too small for these temps. Today it was a little cooler at 97*

So last night I decided to build a speaker box for the car and get out of the house for a while. Well it was a total fail. Made measurements quickly one day and decided to use those measurements without verifying them and this is the result.

Using the panel saw is so much nicer and doesn't require 2 people to operate it like my Mortal Enemy the ruthless table saw.

and the final product. Last night I was like well if it wasn't so late I would pick up some carpet, so I decided to fit it in and wouldn't you know if I missed an entire 2.5" drop at the beginning of the trunk. Otherwise it would have been a tight fit I ended up laying it down and facing it up. I think I may go a whole different route and do an Aperodically dampened system. It will save room and weight and I'll have room for a better amp rack, which I am thinking about dropping (fold) down from the rear deck using a linear actuator.
