Anyone have any suggestion for cleaning the rotors? Yeah, I know most recommend not messing with it because of the loss of compression or damaging the coating. I definitely don't want to mess up the coating, but since I've cleaned the case I may as well clean the gunk off the rotors. Putting dirty parts back on the car drives me nuts. I'm not touching the edges, and I guess I don't care about losing .5 psi if it means I have a thoroughly clean blower. Guess I'm obsessive like that . besides it will just get dirty again soon, then it will be like free boost .

So most was coming off easy with just a dry rag. Stuff closer to front is more stuck. I was just using soapy water and plastic scraper. Any shortcuts that won't damage coating? C'mon, I know someone here is as anal as I am.

Do you have a link for what you are suggesting? I'll look into it thanks!

Nowhere near as an anal as you, I wouldn't even have pulled that blower apart, woulda checked the coupler and if it was good slapped it on. Having it clean will be of no benefit, especially if you run an egr, it'll be filthy again in no time even if you get it spotless without damaging the coating. Jmo.

The dark stuff on the rotors is the coating, I'd leave it be, and possibly look into getting them re-coated at some point.

You are right, some rotor coatings are black. Mine are gray. The coating is in perfect shape, the black is carbon buildup.

Yup leave the rotors alone there's no point. I have about 3 sets of rotors and 3 gm M90's and they are all that way. We had coated rotors like the GM M90 in our gen 4 (Ford) M90 superchargers and would clean one with a sponge and MAF cleaner and elbow grease and a LOT of time. A month later they were in the same condition when we replaced the outlet with a higher flowing unit.

On a Gen III the coating is dark like that. Unless you've had them recoated, that is the factory coating. This is the grey coating I've seen:

One thing that would be beneficial, is if you could remove the nubs from the outlet by the rotor end of the case.

Here is what mine look like:

    From this thread:

    http://www.grandprixforums.net/threa...or-and-coating

You can clearly see on his where the coating is peeled off. On mine they look exactly like his, but dirtier It's quite easy to tell mine are coated. They have an almost rubber feel to them. The black deposits i'm cleaning off are simply carbon from the egr. The main reason I decided to clean is because chunks of the black stuff came off by just touching the rotors, like eggs in a Teflon pan.

Kinda regretting bringing this subject up, as I know it's a touchy one. Live and learn.

Looks different to me. Unless yours was recoated at some point, All Gen 3s got the same coating, it's one of the differences between the Gen 3s and Gen 5s. Could just be the pics though. They may have been recoated, too, who knows.

Can we forget I mentioned cleaning I know what I was getting into when I decided to clean them, I even signed the waiver. I hold no one responsible for any noobishness on my part. I have just ran out of parts to clean and can't do much until the rest of my parts are in. Moving on...

I cleaned up and painted the coil pack bracket. And started cleaning up the fuel rail. I'm trying to decide if I should paint the fuel rail or maybe just clear it. I do realize everything under the hood will get dirty again, and this is certainly no show car...but this is what I do i guess when I have 2-3 weeks until install and warm evenings and a couple cold beers. Don't hate.

I'm not arguing or anything, sorry if i come off that way. As long as you don't feel bare metal then you should be fine. Subject dropped. What color did you paint the bracket?

Maybe they were recoated. Dunno, I got the blower from craigslist. Guy had it for a while and couldn't remember what it came off of. I'm pretty sure it was stock, though. Whatever was used to seal the case was an orange-ish gasket material, scraped off kinda like hardened superglue. I don't think it was RTV, looked factory. By that I mean it was perfectly spread with no squeeze out. That's something I haven't looked into yet. What do most use to seal the case, just black rtv?

It's all good. It totally makes sense why some suggest not to touch the rotors, but like I said....free HP when the carbon builds back up! I am painting most things black. I am accenting with caliper red. I think i have a photo on my phone of what the engine looks like now, i'll have to look. I'm still undecided on what color to paint the blower. Maybe the red with black fuel rails?

The snout to the case uses anaerobic sealant on both sides, but some use RTV without issue. The problem with RTV is people use too much so it squeezes out onto the gears or rotors (depending on the side you are talking about). If you use RTV I'd lit it dry for awhile before introducing the oil to it. I'm overly cautious on **** like that though.

Thanks. Pretty steep learning curve for me, but I'll definitely look more into it.

Tonight I didn't do much. I managed to pop out he needle bearings. Its actually a pretty fun procedure. My cheap harbour freight mini graese gun had no trouble.

First one came out with some velocity, smacked the wall and made a mess. Other one was a dud, just a small pop.

I tried pulling the pulley off with a makeshift puller. No luck. Maybe if I had an impact but that sucker is on there good. Why can't they just be keyed? So I think I'm just gonna take it over to Intense and let them press on new ones when the bearings and mps come in.

Felpro full gasket kit came in. Didn't realize it came with valve seals so now I have two sets. If anyone wants them let me know.
