China made things...aren't really such a bad thing anymore. Most everyone has exported all their bearing manufacturing overseas to China, so it seems like improvements have been made.

What you don't want, is your stuff to be made in Mexico...take a look at recent VWs, they are getting some serious quality issues.

VW has had production in Mexico is the 80's...their MK3's in the 90's damn near made them pull out of the country. Then when the MK4 came out (still Mexican made) they redid a lot of the tooling for the cars so the quality was much better. They need to do it again or they'll be back in the same boat.

either way if the bearings go out they're cheap enough to replace one by one as time goes on. oh well.

i have an "automotive recycler" looking into some parts for me, too. basically they buy new cars and part them out...somehow make a profit. i'm going to get rotors from them with less than 100 miles from an SS (front) and V2 (rear). i've also having them look into a parking brake assembly from a base CTS (09-14) and then i can source the V2 backing plates on my own.

buying those parts used is gonna save me tons, and it'll all be OEM quality. then i just have to get some new pads and TPMS.

They always make the Golf in Germany though. I drove a mk6/7 golf, then a mk6/7 jetta...the difference in quality feeling is huge. Golf wins hands down.

Actually the Golf was made in Brazil for the longest time. The Rabbit (MK1) was built in Westmoreland, PA. MK2 was the beginning of Mexico/Brazil built Jetta and Golf. The Passat was built in Germany as well as the Phaeton. The Touareg was built in Slovakia.

i ordered "precision automotive" bearings, which are a brand that i can pick up at NAPA for ~$135 per bearing with a 3 year warranty.

what i've received is four different bearings. all of which will bolt up to the car and work, but why can't they all at least match? haha.

i've got my fourth bearing in. totally different than the other three. hilarious, right? oh well, they're all the right part numbers so they should be usable. we'll hope the quality is on par with what i actually ordered, heh.

still waiting on hearing back about a base CTS ebrake assembly. then i just need to order the V backing plate and swap those on and i should have my ebrake setup ready to go. rotors are gonna come from these guys as well.

then i just need TPMS and tires. it's starting to get warmer up here in wisconsin so i need to start getting a move on otherwise i'm just gonna wear out my winter tires instead.

    rotors purchased.

    front rotors: GM 92245928 (amazon) - $181.20
rear rotors: GM 92245929 (used 74 miles, schram auto [automotive recycler]) - $110.00

now i gotta figure out pads, TPMS, and tires. the ebrake parts i'm just waiting on the rest of the 'quote', then i'll call in and order.

to get out of the 6x115 bolt pattern it's not that bad. and selling the old wheels should help offset costs.

going to be installing a different shifter this weekend, too.
