    Get some long tube headers intake and a tune for that beast...will really wake it up! Just the intake and tune on my 01 suburban really made a difference!

    in the next couple weeks im lookin at gettin a bull bar and a cold air intake. anyone know any good intakes for a 4.8 v8 1500? and im still debaiting wether to get the black or chrome bull bar?

    A intake would be pretty much useless other than for sound, honestly I would skip it unless you plan on doing alot of other modding engine wise.

    ill ask my brother what brand he used on his Yukon ive seen it, cant recall the brand, its a chrome intake tube that keeps the cone filter in the stock location. with a heat shield iirc around the cone. replaces the whole stock tube and box. hes got a 5.3 but they are all the same.

    i might end up puttin a throttle body spacer in after i put the intake in. but ive talked to some people that have intakes in their truck and they say they love them and have notice a change in gas mileage aslong as you drive normal

    I don't even see how thats possible, the MAF is right after the air box, so taking longer for the air to reach the motor = more mpgs?

    the maf is at the end of the stock intake tube, right at the outside of the air filter box. after market intake, keeps the maf in the same place.

    that tb spacer, probably not worth it.

    my brother did have his pcm tuned as well, upped trans line pressure and changed the shift points some. and tuned for what ever octane gas he uses. picked up a couple mpg.

    oh they even tuned the tow haul button, so its got more dig and longer shifts. and had the tq management turned down as well.

    I'm not sure if its popular up in Ohio, but AirRaid seems to make a solid CAI kit, kinda like K&Ns. Something to look into, but as said, if you're not going to do many mods, I would just stick with the factory intake for the time being.

    this is the one my brother got. says hes not sure if he gained anything from it, but it claims 17 hp he said lol

    hes on the Tahoe/Yukon boards and says the TB spacer is 100% worthless. its dyno proven not to do jack. as its a spacer before the fuel injection. so its not the same as a spacer under a carb or old tbi TB.

    this is a thread with the dyno tests for the cold air intakes, they got some gains. the spectre is not tested but its damn near close to the rest of them.

    Why bother with an intake? If you go mudding as much as you say, I'd stay stock

    I love trucks and especially Silverados But yeah don't lift it with larger tires if your concerned with mpgs.

    oh he did say you will feel a cat back set up power wise. hes got a flowmaster 50's Cat back, sounds mean.

    said most of his gains is from the tune. hes like hey tell him they are tuning this weekend in NJ!! ( im like hes not local) so road trip to see blackbear tuning?

    this is the tuner shop he used. looks like they travel all over, check the calender. Black Bear Performance :: Custom Tuning Solutions for 96 and newer GM Vehicles a trip to these guys woke his truck up. pretty sure they are based up state NY.

    You bought a truck and are worried about mpgs?

    Lol, c'mon man you knew what you were getting yourself into. Its already got the smallest V8 they make, which should get you a 1-2 mpg increase over the 5.3, but there is not much else you can do.

    Full tune up will help alot, driving with a light foot and trying to keep the rpms low while crusing, do 65 instead of 70. A custom tune aswell to maybe get another 1-2 increase. Also from reading and hearing what other have said, lowering the truck will make it less of a brick going down the road, lifting it will decrease mpgs, same with putting big meaty tires on it.
