You cant even tell it was spray paint, very good skills Sir. Yeah, wet sand lightly with some 1500-2000 grit and then some sort of compound will make it really shine.

LOL spazzz, I was going to say UC, but wasn't sure.
Yeah I was just reading up on wet sanding because there are imperfections, just you guys can't see them lol. I'd rather go with higher because I used duplicolor n I don't want to chew thru the clear. I did 3 coats of each and have enough to do one more clear coat. So maybe I can see how it is tomorrow in the light and go from there. Thanks everyone for the insight. I took auto body in high school but its been a few years n I don't remember too much haha.
Woke up to this, this morning and then had to go plow for 7 hours. Not gonna get the spoiler on today
Well even though it was 30 degrees out today I got some stuff done...wet sanded, rubbing compound and waxed the spoiler, although it did not come out as good as I would have liked, it still looks decent. The color is a little off, it's more of a brighter red than dark but pretty close. They didn't have my duplicolor at any stores, only in the nail polish size also I debadged the gm symbols on the fenders and debadged the Grand Prix and gtp sign on it, I left the small supercharged badge on but contemplating taking it off, what do you guys think? Also washed it n took a few ne pictures.
7am getting in from plowing snow again..12k HIDs
Looks just too flat red
Just some new pics debadged
Debadged back..that's the supercharged badge I left. I think it needs to go.. Them tips need some polish boi!
And my favorite, next to go is front plate holder, need to find some plugs for it, at autozone they only had interior things that hold on doors n stuff. That might work just have to paint em..?
Car is looking great, makes me want a 04+.
How many clear coats did you do?
Thanks. I love the body style of em n the interior. I used 3 coats of primer, base coat and clear coat. Then wetsanded with 2000. They didnt have 2500..only 2000 n 3000. N then used rubbing compound n wax. It didnt buff out n shine up like I was thinking. Ill have to redo it when it gets nicer. Its decent but not as glossy as the reat of the car..
Yeah, if your going to wet sand and buff clear then it would be safe to do at least 3 coats of clear, the rims I'm refinishing have 2 coats of clear. I can tell when I put the 2nd coat of clear on that it darkens up way more than just one, but I know cause of the temps up there it is a pain for you Northern folk. If it makes you feel better, it was 65* today down here, I had the sunroof open
Haha yeah I cant wait for it to be that warm out. Lucky. How can I make it real glossy, any suggestions? Should I clearcoat it more? Lol
Okay cool ill do that for starters. Nice job on the rims. Theyre looking sick. I love gunmetal. Im gonna try n get the gxp rims n do them gunmetal like yours. N do a red n grey theme
Thanks, Gunmetal is like the New black LOL, but looks tons better IMO. Get the Bonneville GXP rims though, those are the best ones.
Looks good man... but yeh it has the satin look. Did you use a factory match? probably going to want that for starters. If I was going to do mine, I would probably order from someplace like Automotivetouchup.com Touch Up Paint, Aerosol Spray Paint and Touchup Paint Accessories | AutomotiveTouchup | 888-710-5192, they match the code and you could get some clear also. I know I personally would do at least 3 Base coats ,wait a day then wet sand and maybe do 2 more, wait a day.. wet sand then Clear tack coat, wait(30minutes?)...medium coat,wait(1 hour)...heavy coat...wait a day. wet sand.....Then polish till your arms are going to fall off or use a machine.
Debadge is sweetness smooth. the practice on the spray bombs will come in handy when you VHT your reverse bar!!
edit: I'ld read the labels for application methods and change the method accordingly

They didnt have my factory match in duplicolor so I had to pick what I thought would match best. Its pretty close just a lil brighter. N thanks thats a nice website n only 20 $ for a can. I did 3 coats of base n 3 coats of clear then wetsanded n then buffed. That was it. I didnt know if I should clear coat again after I had sanded it or what. Its good enough for now but thanks for the website. When I redo it ill order from there.
I have some vht from my previous monte that I never used. N I agree id like to do the reverse light n brake light possibly. Once I get tints on the car possibly do the tails. But since the cars red it kinda just flows in all together with the lights being red so no rush lol.
Hmmm, that was 3 coats of clear? It looks more like one. The color is great, but it dried to a mate like finish.Well then do like spazzz said and go with light/medium/heavy coats.
I have been sitting here pondering and the only other thing I can think of, is that the Temps up there affected the outcome.
I wasn't sure about the base coats, you know what your doing....I just had to lay it on the line. You'll get it perfect, we all have OCD here
I agree with the red tail theory...getting them a hair darker would be a btch.
Clear will dry in the air before it hits the product unless temps and distance are just right, causing the fuzziness
Yup 3 coats of clear. N it looked more glossy before I had wetsanded it so maybe thats where I messed it up. Perhaps I can just take it off n try to clear it all again. Oh well we will get it right one of these times! Haha thanks guys
