Well I officially started the 5 speed build today. Not much really in the way of progress. I got a late start, was jumping between my car and my older brother's Subaru, went to a car show for a few hours, and went to the store to buy some brake cleaner and engine paint. The pics are pretty much self explanatory.

Step one: Get the front end naked.

Step two: Get some crap out of the way for convenience.

Step three: Removal of engine and trans,

Sure, I could've pulled it out of the top quicker, but I got nothing but time. Also before all this, I blew a rear brake line, but I already anticipated replacing it during the build so no big deal. Stockish exhaust is off. Tomorrow, the engine and trans part ways forever and the actual build begins. Stay tuned for more.

Thanks Matt. It's only a mid lift, but it's so much better than laying on my back.

I didn't think many pics would be necessary today as this was boring engine removal day. Tomorrow should bring many more pics.

Pics slow me down. Also, I have back/hip issues so working fast usually isn't an option. Tomorrow the 3800 will meet the 5 speed for the first time for mock up. I still have wiring to contend with, shifter and cable install, and clutch master cylinder install to figure out too.

By no means let my comments force you to work faster (I also have hip problems). I just wanna see it all, from start to finish and everything in between.

It's morning! I woke up, went out to the garage to smoke a cigarette and survey the mess. After a shower, I'll be headed out for more build fun. I'll update everyone tonight.

BTW, you're welcome for the help Saturday, Bill. As always, it was great hanging out and hope we can do it again soon!
