Thought I would share a few pics of my build. Pretty standard stuff, 1999 GTP coupe. I bought the car in pretty piss poor condition, 140k miles, bald tires, bashed up body, trashed interior. The seller didnt know anything about the car, he was selling it for someone that was in jail for a few years. Good finds on the car was a zzp modular setup with a 3.4, K&n, powerslots, addco swaybars, newish KYB GR2's all around and a Magnaflow catback. Somebody loved her at one point.

Thanks to Morad parts I got most of the damaged panels replaced in matching colors and had the body work done on the car to get it in somewhat respectable condition right off the bat

but of course.....with no supporting mods for the 3.4 pulley, i only drove the car for 3 months and it chipped a piston.

FREE 10mm socket, heck yea! lmao

Yanked the ole trans while i was at it being that I build transmissions for a living, it wouldnt make sense not to lol.

    stupid chipped piston

Thats it for the tear down i think, i have way more pics i just put up like one out of every 10. Ill work on the rebuild portion of the thread some more tomorrow night. Theres also a lot more info on my trans build in the transmission section if you search my name!

    Nice man.

Sucks about the motor. New used short blocks are the way to go, not a fan of rebuilding these, they tend not to last.

Should be like a new car when you get it done.

    Ah gotcha.

I assume you switched the pulley back to stock or added headers or something.

See I wish I had a lift and a shop like that!! Nice work on bringing one more back from the dead... That car was surely bound for oblivion... too bad about the engine... Sounds like you had it all under control though.

the combustion chamber on #3 where the piston was chipped was fine, the rear (or left) head was cracked between the valves on all chambers though. Unfortunately the shop is not just for my hobbies lol, as I said I build transmissions and driveline plus occasional engine work for a living so that hoist and shop has more than paid for itself 100x's over. I knew the engine was bound for destruction the first time I scanned the car with my snap-on and it had 6-8* of KR but at 140k I just figured I would finish it off and start fresh.

moving on though...after the car blew up I tore the engine and trans down, ordered all the parts for the trans and some of the parts for the engine....but then I kind of ran out of motivation....and money. So it sat for a few months, but I was determined not to drive our 94 chevy 1500 shop truck another whole summer with the GTP growing into the weeds so throughout the winter I kicked my own butt back into gear. I got the trans assembled, Blue Plate clutches throughout, transgo shift kit, homebrew single chain conversion (I wont say much about this but it cost me $0 extra), LOTS of brand new parts....

I didnt take any pictures of it completed but at this point I trust that most of you know what a 4T65 looks like lol.

Before I start this section let me say I wanted to do a lot of things with the engine but my budget just wouldnt allow so.... on to the engine - .030 over bore, Speed-Pro pistons on the original rods, ARP rod bolts, hastings rings, Engine Pro bearings THAT DIDNT FIT and a few were machined .004 off so the crank locked up when I torqued them down. So Clevite bearings, comp 76-802-9 cam (.210/.220, .531/.531), L92 valve springs and retainers, Rollmaster single chain, ZZP oil volume kit, balance shaft elim, stock M90 (self ported), SD headers, new lifters, all new TTY bolts, Spiro-Pro plug wires. I think that about sums it up, heres the pics.

    Degreeing the cam

    ring installation

    hot tank

    Supercharger rebuild and port

    painting stuff

Ill finish this up before i forget about it. So at this point I got the body work situated, blew up the motor, then rebuilt the motor and trans. So moving on to the last two weeks. I chipped the piston on March 18,2011 so i was determined to have the car back together before the full 1 year mark. So I dragged the shell out of the weeds and degreased/power washed as much as possible. I connected the battery to pop the trunk and it still had a charge!

Dragged the engine out to the main shop and mocked up the headers

Dragged the car in and dropped the engine in

and THHHHEENNN, pulled the trans back out because of a stupid issue

Fixed issue, trans back in. my dad fixing the broken welds on the resonator on my Magnaflow system.

    Installed Innovate WB

    New rims on

FINALLY got my DHP to connect
