Major update!!!! engine and trand took a s**t. I have a used tranny from a 98 gtp with 37k thats ready to put it, but as i pulled my car into the garage i heard a heavy knocking in my motor and upon inspection it looks like my rod bearings are spun (cause may be becasue of oil pump going bad). I also have a new ps rack and pinion and endlinks with new lower control arms to put in as well but those wont get done until i do my trans, after i fix my motor. Im probably going to put new rod bearings in then install the trans and then save up for a rebuild kit with all new gaskets bearings rods pistions oil pump and maybe a new cam with roller rockers.
this is the metal peices i found in my oil filter after i cut it open
in the mitz of removing my oil pan
took a pic of bottom of my oil pan (all the shiny peices are peices of metal)
outside of the rod bearing on cylinder# 6
the inside of my rod bearing. you can see the black marks where the bearing lost oil and the rod caught
rod and crank journal
new rack and pinion along witht he lca's and tierods. parts were supposed to be installed today
new trans painted black with all new seals and ready to go.
Wow, that totally sux... But it's a nice car and worth dropping a new motor in for sure! Good luck with it
Gotta shop around...3800 are a dime a dozen.. Would be cheaper then rebuilding one. Of course it's your money though so I understand
ya im gonna have to find a good one but once i do ill send the block, rods and crank over to be balanced and honed. assuming that there is no damage to the block. but me and my dad are going to rebuild it unless we find a motor for less then like 300 bucks lol.
So today my father and i put in the new rod bearings. After we startede tearing the front of the motor off alternator, coolant tensioner, and front timing cover. We rebuilt the oil pump assembly installed and water pump and sensors in the surrounding area. Everything was all scrubed up and put back together. Now all we have to do is to put the oil pan back on and the motor mount bracket and i will be turning the key to see if she fires up.
Cool build thread, I have a P3 12", the color you chose is great.
i was going to get 2 p3 12's but everyone has those at my school lol i wanted to be diffrent and my 1 15 is definetly louder than 2 p3 12's. i think i paind a total of like 340-350 for my sub, wiring kit, box, amp and capacitor and misc parts. same thing witht the color i wanted to be diffreent i had never seen a car painted black with blue pearl.
Also, i found why i spun a bearing...the channels inside the oil fliter adapter were all clogged up and full of oil sludge and i thourghly cleaned every part ot the timing cover. I also think my oil preasure sensor was bad because i never had the dash light come on. all inside the channels were completly blocked and have to be scraped out with a pick and i cleaned the s**t out of both the adapter and the timing cover. and rebuilt the oil pump assembly.
I want to know how you rebuilt that engine for less than $800.
