Thread: Old blue

Timing to start a thread for old blue, now that I am working on it again. It is a 78 dodge d-100/w-150/80 dodge adventurer Frankenstein.

It is powered by a 400 H/O b series big block. Power is transferred to a torque flight 727 trans and a np 230? IIRC divorced transfer case. Has a spool in the rear and a Detroit locker up front.

The plan for the next month or so is to lower it down some. Swap out the 38" tires for some 35" tires I have in the shed, then pull it. Progress is as follows.

Just got a new hei distributor put in along with a new holley carb to get it running good. Before It had horrible issues with cutting out when WOT. Just tonight I got my new 16" 2500 cfm electric fan wired in to free up some power from the old clutch fan and to provide better cooling. Tomorrow I plan to get my custom gauge panel made and to clean up the spark plug wires.

Will update tomorrow with fresh pics and other magical things.

i did the electric fans on my 03 gmc, and you do notice a small power increase off the line, i had 2, 16" pro comps cost 25 each, the relays, switches and wiring cost another 30, and they wanted a 160 for a new clutch fan. f that!

this was the 3 rd clutch fan and the warranty ran out.

the truck ran 1 deg cooler, and the a/c blew ice cold like never before, and i gained maybe 2 mpg, if i drove it nice.

Yeah this is a pro comp fan also. I got two of them off ebay for $60 with mounting kit. the fan seem to hold up good?

yeah i had it for 3 years no failures, i think i had the 8 curved blades, you could feel it sucking air into the grill.

i would always turn them off if i hit deep water, i live in a flood zone, so 3 feet of water was the norm, so they took all that. had it up to the windshield one time too lol.

the pro comps even worked better when i had my plow on while on the high way, the stock fan i would over heat if i went over 65 and was in the gas, i would have to light foot it on the highway if you know what i mean.

you may need 2 fans for that, if the radiator is a 32 long, for the price you cant go wrong.

I have another fan I might mount on the front as a pusher. Dont have room to do side by side.

id put one on the left as a puller and the one on the out side right as a pusher, or vise versa, which ever way they fit. that should work.

don't know if its got ac, but you may need a bracket to hold the outside fan, the mounting zip tie things are to fat to fit through a condenser. at least the ones i had available to me were.

I only have about 4 inch on each side of the fan now so they would have to be stacked pretty much. No a/c on this truck Even if there was I would have ditched it, no need Its not a long distance thing gets about 4 mpg in town.

now make it driveable on the street.

It is drivable on the street just have to get new tags.

i mean fix the interior stuff so you can drive it like a normal truck. not with the shift linkage just rattling around and shoving it around with your hand.
