^^^ thats why im starting on a 250.
It's a great choice to start out with, you get a good feel for going through all the gears. You may/may not get bored of the "slowness" after a season or two (at least I did), when you jump on a faster bike, even a 600, its like a gtp vs. a gt lol, then you get addicted to the speed lol.
Ride Safe.
I started on an 04 ninja 500r, it had megacycle cams, was bored to 540, bigger rear sprocket, and slip ons. Was the perfect starter cause it had already been laid over a time or two. Plus I'm kinda a big guy 6' 250lb. Long story short beware beware beware other drivers. I had a guy change lanes into me which pushed me to the curb which flipped my front wheel back out towards the road when I hit it and it sent me flying. 13 stitches in my forehead, left shoulder was F#$KED up... part of the humerus chipped off, had two full thickness tears on the major muscles and a tore rotator cuff. 6 months outta work with little pay, and a plate an 5 screws in my shoulder for it. Oh and about 30-40k in medical bills which may or may not get paid since I'm still waiting on a lawsuit to settle almost a year later.
DAMN...
were you wearing proper gear? helmet?
here are my rules when i ride:
- ride AGGRESIVELY. dont ride super fast and weave, but once you commit to going somewhere go there. do not back out.
- do not EVER ride next to another vehicle unless you are riding next to the drivers side window and you are 100% sure they've seen you. i always quickly pass people and cruise right in front of them or right behind them. i will never cruise next to a car.
- assume that literally no one can see or hear you, so dont jump out in front of anyone unless you have the intentions of beating on the bike and going IN FRONT of that car. people will mow you down if you don't make the right choice.
- wear some form of sunglasses or a tinted visor during the day. it's bright, you'll get blinded, and miss a turn or hit something. do not wear the sunglasses or tinted visor at night, the same thing will happen.
- always wear your helmet. the rest of the body will recover (to a certain extent), but when you take the pavement with your face it does not ever end well.
i know there is more that i do that im forgetting right now, but you really have to play it safe. ive never been in a situation where i didnt feel comfortable because i go out of my way to not put myself into those situations.
have fun, ride safe.
My buddies old teacher who is like 65 and still drives insanely fast street bikes told him an occurrence that happened to him once. Some lady swerved over and made him run off into the ditch. Got back up and chased her down, and followed her on an off ramp to a stop sign. Took his helmet off and started bashing it at her window with every intention of breaking it out. Needless to say, the window never broke and the lady just looked forward the whole time.
Why you never ride beside someone.
If that's the case he wasn't hitting the window hard enough.
Nope, we don't have helmet laws here and it was July in Oklahoma so it was way to hot for the gear. I know, I'm retarded for not having a helmet but I need like a xxxl one and I just never got around to ordering one. As soon as I stopped sliding I hopped right up though so I didn't hit my head very hard. My arms took the brunt of it...
I was passing him at about 45 which is the speed limit and the old dude who hit me was doing I would guess a touch under 40. I even honked as I was braking super hard, he still kept coming and it almost seemed like he slowed down with me but still kept merging. And I don't know how he didn't hear me cause that thing was pretty loud for a sport bike...
A buddy of mine from work, about 2 months ago if that bought a zx-14 ninja. Last week he was headed home from work in the usual 40-50mph bumper to bumper of rush hour and was following too close apparently. Well the van/truck that was in front of him that he couldn't see over or through suddenley had an opening to the right and they did a fast and the furious merge I guess and in front of where that van/truck was in his lane there was a truck stopped in the middle of the highway. He had nowhere to go on either side cause of the traffic and had about a milisecond to lay it down before plowing into the back of the truck. He got it laid down and him and the bike went up under the truck. He made it okay with just a bit of rash and some bruising, but the bike was totalled and with the depreciation of 2 months and his $1000 deductable he's in the hole about 2-3k and no bike. So also be prepared to lay it down to save your own ass is the moral of that story...
There's two types of motorcyclist, those that have wrecked and those that haven't YET. So be careful fella... Sorry to preach, I've just seen a LOT of people I know either get killed or badly injured. I for one won't be getting another bike til my childrens are at least halfway grown. I gotta wait for the rest of them to be born so its gonna be a bit lol
other than wearing a helmet, always wear gloves. if and when you go down, most of the time your first point of contact with the asphalt is the palm of your hands. it's our natural instinct! this takes the longest to heal. plus, wearing gloves does not in anyway take your cool-ness away.
bump for new pics
trim the gay rear fender.
ride safe dude, seen dopes with no gear on, doing well over 100mph on the expressway weaving in and out of traffic, all it takes is for some old granny in a mini van not paying attention and you are toast!
TC
600's are fine for starter bikes. you dont have to have some wieght either. im 140 at 5'8" and i have an r6. as long as youre not retarded and you pay attention to other retarded drivers a 600 is fine. sweet bike though dude
Nice bike. Looks like a lot of fun!
I ride a '04 Honda CBR1000RR with no problems.
Ride smart. Wear gear, always.
Be very alert, always.
Bio248 is a smart man!
