Thread: My new toy

Hey guys just picked up a brand new 09 250r SE with 1.4 miles on it.
got it because its my first bike and it gets 70+ mpg lol.

Thinking about getting one for Kim once we finish the move since she wants a bike and I didn't want her getting anything fast.

Your undertail is showing. Get that shizzz tucked regardless if it's only a 250.

I highly dislike the new 250s because theyre on the same body now as the 600/750/1000's so you can't tell the difference when your going down the highway BAHAHA

it is a nice bike for gas mileage, I would have gone for a 600 at least tho, that way you have the drive when you need it, the efficiency when your just puttin around

Yeah I hear ya, at least for a newer bike. I would jump on a 600 for my first bike, but people are different. I would have gone with a older 250 to save some money.

older 250s have less power and get worse mileage.

lol why dumb? If properly respected a 600 is a great starter bike for someone with some body weight. Now if your 16 and 5' flat @ 98lbs I agree you don't need to be anywhere near a 600

even a new-ish (mid 2000s) 600 has enough power to wreck a dude if they have no respect for the bike, which new riders dont. i would never recommend anyone to buy a newer sport bike anyway. im a giant fan of old 70s and 80s cruisers that you can find on craigslist all day long for $500.

Each to their own. I know several people who started out on 600s. The thing is, you buy the bike, get used to it, then use the bike to its potential. Instead of getting a 250.... learning it... then selling/buying a bigger bike, then encompassing the new found power. Anyways, I started learning on a 600 Honda Shadow.

a 600 honda shadow is way, way different than a 600 sport bike.

I understand this. I was saying I know quite a few people that started out on 600 sport bikes. I had to add my .02 cents.

An pocket rocket has enough power to get a 180lb man up to 30mph which is enough to wreck a dude if they have no respect for said POCKET ROCKET... a 250 is 70+mph capable, a 600 even more so... you can hurt yourself walking... you have to respect the bike or the bike will ride you

I crashed a 1000 being stupid, my buddy crashed his gxr 600, my best friend his special edition ninja 1000... and a friend being super dumb tried to top out his busa the first week he owned it... it fortunately catapulted him across the road and he landed in a field of high grass. He was also fortunate to be in actual riding gear and a helmet with a buddy on a slower 1000 that witness where he landed. He made a full recover, restored the leftovers of the busa and sold it as a stunt bike to get money back lol

All Im saying is it depends on the rider; the build of the person, and the mindset of them to decide what they need to start on. I rode all my life, I still was dumb and have scars to prove it, but my first street bike was a 600 because Im 5'8" @ 180 lbs... a ninja 250 would be like getting on a scooter, just no power for my size... now my ex got her a ninja 250 because she was 5"- @ 105 lbs... and we had to lower it so she could flat foot it lol

you can't just say you need to start out on a certain kind of bike or your dumb, thats like saying you need to start out with a 1987 civic because they're cheap and easy to replace when wrecked. I have never had a wreck, been in them sure, but when driving, never crashed

have to agree with bio on this. first bike, i'll go straight for the 1000. its all on the throttle and responsible riding! the technology on bike today are not like yesterday's dinosaur.

Here's a pic of my first bike... Not my actual bike( I'd have to scan and upload pics) but mine was identical..... It was an 81 Kawasaki 650 CSR. It belonged to my brother and he hadn't ridden it or started it since 1992.. My dad and I brought it home from Milwaukee and basically broke the engine loose with lots of persuasion(dumping kerosene,oil, etc down the cylinders through the spark plug hole because it was seized up.... Eventually it broke loose and we blew all the **** out of the cylinders,replaced the plugs and a couple other things. It ran really well after that. The bike had 12,000 miles on it when I got rid of it.... It was a fun bike for cruising and such but I got out of the bike scene because I had too many close encounters with people not paying attention and almost taking me out... The thing I notice about today's people on bikes, doesn't matter if its a crotch rocket,Harley or anything else.... They have no respect for the bike,themselves, or other people.
