Keep them all registered. You can't take S10 off the road.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Well here's how things sit right now:
1.) 2004 Silhouette - Wifes primary. Fits the whole family plus a couple extra when needed. Booooring
2.) 1997 S10 - My primary. Fits me and one adult or two kids. Fun to drive but highly impractical.
3.) 2006 2500HD - Backup. Rode hard and put away wet but super practical. Tows a car, hauls rock, and fits the whole family.

The Regal would be number four. I can never imagine a situation where we would need all four ready to go within a very short amount of time. They all run and drive reliably and that's good enough for me. It's not really an issue of keeping them registered. The tags are already paid for so that money is gone regardless. The issue is the insurance cost. It's not a huge chunk, but there's money to be saved there. I can swap coverage around with a simple phone call if something comes up.

Having said all that, here's my tentative plan...

Wife continues to drive the minivan like normal. The 2500HD retains its place as the backup. I pull the insurance off the S10 and put it on the Regal. I drive that through the summer and make sure all the bugs are worked out as I do "minor" mods and maintenance. The S10 isn't a ton of fun to drive in the summer anyway. It's not up to its full potential in the insane heat. Anyhow, since that would just be sitting in the garage unused, that would be the perfect time to do some much needed upgrades. Almost certainly cam and valve springs, but that would also be a good time to toss the ported 243 heads on. Spare time and budget would dictate.

By early fall the S10 should back together and I'd be confident in the Regals reliability. The minivan would go away and she could dailey the (now faster) Regal. The (now faster) S10 would be back on the road as my dailey. That's the plan anyway.

    Change my mind?

The only issue I'd see is pulling the wife off the minivan unless your plan is to just sell the minivan and let her DD the Regal permanently. No sense in keeping a Silhouette around just to be sit.

Yup! That's exactly the plan. I don't really *hate* the minivan, but I've never really liked it either. This Regal should fit the bill nicely.

I snuck some Regal goodies in on my last 4L60e parts order.

Not sure when I'll get it in, but I like having it on the shelf.

Got my filter baskets today. Now I can "rebuild" those 42's and put them on the shelf until I need them. Which, at the rate I'm going, should be sometime in 2025.

Interesting, on being able to swap insurance etc around that way and very nice. Here if it's registered (plated), it must be insured or you'll get the registration cancelled and that goes bad real quick if you are pulled over.

I noticed you didn't mention the other truck, is that in limbo til around 2027? Must be nice knowing you can leave a project sit without worry it'll rust to death before you get to it.

Yeah, I'm still getting used to it. Out here registration and insurance are completely unrelated. Only requirement for reg. is a passed emissions test (if you're in the city limits). In Michigan you couldn't register a vehicle until you had proof of insurance.

Well hopefully not that long, but it has turned into more of a long term project. I do relish the fact that vehicles can sit almost indefinitely without suffering too much.

    Got my order from ZZPee.

On the shelf. I'm not entirely sure how, but I have accumulated 4 unopened bottles of AC Delco SC oil. None of them purchased by me. I think my father in law bought too many for when I changed the coupler on his GTP, and my brother in law left me some that he never got around to using before he sold his Regal.

Got the pillar pod the other day... Anyone know off hand the best color matching trim paint for the grey interior?

Edit: Looks like Dupli color makes a "Charcoal" gray and "Medium" gray. Who's closer?

SEM does make the graphite that matches. However.. the cool kids don't do a pillar pod, they mount it into the plastic inside the cubby in front of the shifter. I think I enlarged the cig lighter hole to fit it. Nice because then you don't look modded and no one knows you have that cool gauge. Plus it's not sitting in the sun and getting slaughtered in the AZ heat.

Thanks Scotty. Got the SEM 15393 spray on the way!

Bill, I've been accused of many things but being cool was never one of them. I'm sure sitting it in the sun will shorten it's life some, but that's the price we pay to live in paradise!

my 8 dollar universal dual dash pod worked just fine. and it was with in my line of sight.

my new pod for a dual wb in the ss. snaps in lace of the little defroster vent, and it still vents.

It was a mild 107ۦ today.

I took advantage of a cool(er) morning and some time off and got the keys duplicated. Car only came with one set. Local hardware store didn't want to cut the blanks I provided. Made me sign a waiver. Apparently they've had issues in the past cutting "chipped" keys that then locked the owners out. I shrugged and said whatever.
