Just picked up a new mirror, it'll be legal by the end of today hopefully and back on the road.
Haven't heard back from them yet, but I'm planning on cancelling the claim if they want to total it.
I did find another victim of the accident...
That's kinda broken... by Ben Stryker, on Flickr
That's supposed to hold the front of the engine...
I went ahead and swapped it out for the cast iron bracket that also mounts the ICM... After cleaning a bunch of corrosion off the underside of the ICM and that little ground wire, WOT seems to be a little stronger. Still painfully slow, but it sounds like an angry wet fart now instead of a lazy wet fart. And the exhaust heat shield is hanging down, scraping on all sorts of things... I'll zip tie that back up later. lol
Well, this appears to be the end of the line for the dirty sloot...
Insurance is insisting on declaring it a total loss, and I don't have the time or money to get a salvage title. Now I get to make the decision whether to keep the new parts I just bought and get another GP, or pull off the valuable parts and sell them, and get a different cheap beater.
I'm sad to see this car go, especially since I've put so much work into this damn thing... But the next one will be even better.
Sorry to hear that. She survived Alaskan roads & winters, the longest "cross country" relocation I know of, all to be done in by a puddle ... ? that ain't right. Best of luck whatever you end up doing. Don't be a stranger.
After talking it over with the wife and hashing out each option... I'm probably gonna pick up another GP. lol
This time it's gonna be boosted.
Called it, JUNK IT Dam am I good. /end thread /3800 /everything.

Gp's are almost all cheap beaters now. So you shouldn't have to look to far

Got everything pulled off of it that I'm keeping, including the pre-gens...
Now it sits in the overflow parking, waiting for the bank/insurance to come claim it.
I remember doing the same thing with my 01 Monte SS. I remember taking the goodies off of it and walking away looking back at it all wrecked and sad looking
It kinda felt like taking jewlery off a dead loved one.
I feel your pain brother

Well, it's gone.
Bye... by Ben Stryker, on Flickr
I didn't get the chance to be there when it was picked up, so I'm going off what my wife told me... It wasn't going without a fight.
The brake lines caught on fire when the guy put it in neutral and pushed it backwards. I had pulled the battery out about 2 weeks ago first to jump the wife's car, then I left it out because I thought it had started to swell after putting it on a charger. The guy had tried to start it with a jump pack, but it refused to start. After disconnecting the jump pack, he went back to his truck to see if he had another one with more charge. He looked for about 15 minutes, gave up and put the car in neutral and started rolling it backwards. Right as he got it into position, it started smoking and smelled horrible. The guy ran over to the truck and grabbed a bottle of water, put out the fire and finished hooking it up. Apparently it started right underneath the ABS module, but both the guy and my wife could clearly see the glowing little flame, right in between the two brake lines running to the rear of the car. The slightly larger fuel line was completely untouched. Just the brake lines had caught on fire, plenty of time after the jump pack had been disconnected to reasonably guess that it wasn't an electrical short that had caused it.

You can just barely see the smoke rising from the right rear of the engine compartment, this being right after he had finished pushing the car back. And the subsequent panic of the guy thinking he had left the jump pack connected by accident. Nope. It just caught itself on fire.
I have a strange gut feeling that I poured enough time, effort, and love into that car that I gave it a soul, and now it's angry. The car is now cursed.
I got the money this morning. Now I can get something small, 4x4 and 4 cyl to get me to and from work, while I wait for the right deal on a Comp G.
I'm thinking a late 80s Dodge Ram 50 4x4 with a 5 speed. I want to find a short bed extended cab, but I'll take a regular cab.
