So, I recently purchased a '99 GTP and became a noob member to this awesome community. While surfing the forums I found out that there was a recall for the s/c 3.8 valve covers leaking. I have this overwhelming leak on my car. Since Pontiac is no more, Is there anyone who will still honor the recall? If so, what do I need to do to get this taken care of? Am I just out of luck, and need to pay to get the part and put it on?

    Any insights are welcomed.

    Welcome to the forum.

You should be able to take it to any GM dealership. Looks like you have one there in SV. Lawley Motors. Have you gotten the recall postcard in the mail yet?

No, but I'm the third or fourth owner of the car. Do I need to present a postcard?

I went online to GM's website and entered my V.I.N. to see if mine was recalled. If the car was recalled and NOT fixed, there would be a message that would pop up. If it was recalled and it got fixed, nothing would show up. You can search online "GM recall lookup" or something along those lines to find the website to see if your car is available for a recalled fix.

Oh and you don't need a post card. The dealership will do the same thing that I posted above to see if your car is still under warranty.

Right, no card needed, but that's how i knew the recall had not been performed on my car yet. I wasn't even aware of a recall until i got the card.

Just curious, how long or what year did you get your card? I see your car is a 2000, are you the original owner?

Records show I'm the third owner. It was a while ago but I'm guessing i got a card within three months of title transfer/registration. About two weeks after i put new VC gaskets on myself. LOL

Oh ok, so it seems like they mail it out to each new owner. I was curious as to if they did it only one time, but I guess not lol.

I just checked it and it says there are no outstanding recalls for my car but the valve covers are pouring oil everywhere. If the work was done than it was an ineffective patch.

Sounds like it's been done before. Time to break out the wrenches! Better get it done sooner rather than latter. In the meantime, hit that mess with some purple power.

I had a dealership "repair" the leaking VC issue under recall when I first got my car and it continued to leak until I did it myself. Not a drop of oil since. I would suggest doing it yourself that way you know it's done correctly.

I checked mine a while back and nothing came up either. My car also pours oil out from the valve cover. I attempted to repair it, but the dog bone bracket attached over the valve cover is tricky to remove (assuming your car is N/A). It will be my 3rd time embarking on this repair if I choose to do so, which will happen sooner or later. Good luck with yours!

Unless you screw something up yourself lol. But I'm sure that won't happen.

I know, but there are some people that would do worse than a dealership would.
