04 GP GT2 is beginning to over heat, I've changed the T-stat and it goes close to the red mark when in traffic but on the road or hwy its good. Now when I turn the A/C button it takes it down. What could it be?? Could it be the water pump or is the radiator clogged up???

I'd lean more towards a water pump. I can't think of much that would clog your radiator, other than rust.
Although I've read around here about clogged heater cores .
But since your operating temps rise above normal, I'd say water pump not moving the fluid at litter RPMs.

Honestly before i jumped straight to the water pump I would check to make sure your fans are turning on. start the car and let it get up to operating temp and make sure they do come on. The reason i say this is the coolant temp sensors in our cars can be troublesome and when they go bad one of the symptoms can be that the fans will no longer turn on. This would cause a car to overheat in traffic as it relies on the fans to move air past the radiator to cool the coolant, whereas at speed the air will move through the radiator without need for the fans. However, if they aren't turning on don't jump straight to the temp sensor. make sure the relays and fuses are good as well. If they are then you either have a wiring issue or the temp sensor has gone bad.

pull the temp sensor plug off, both fans should come on. if they come on the temp sensors has failed.
while the plug is off check the wires to it for damage, they can touch or just bake in the heat of the cross over pipe and that pig tail goes bad. will cause the same issue.
try to buy a delco sensor, the parts store sensors dont seem to work for crap. most will try 3 or 4 brand new ones till one works.

My 2000 GP acted the same way most of its life. I didn't worry about it because my commute was 50 miles of freeway and rarely stuck in traffic. Late in its life the radiator side tank was leaking so I put a new radiator in with new upper and lower hose and a thermostat. After that it held a solid temp so it was one of the 3 things that fixed it. Guess is radiator flowed better.Originally Posted by fakir

the way things work here is you need to do the leg work, we cant show up and fix your car for you from here.
have you changed the temp sensor? looked at its wires? hooked up a obd2 scan tool to see what temp the pcm is reading? <<all this has to be checked on your end.
all we can do is give you directions to check things.

Damn, the ole' lady just called on her way to work and just said the same thing, temp is ok on the highway but as soon as she exits the freeway it started to climb, ugh gonna have to check it out, oh and the heat doesn't work as well its like 25 deg outside

Well, it over heated again or at least it tried to, so I unplugged the temp sensor, turn on the car and both fans turn on. Turned off the car plugged back the temp sensor and still the same both fans turned back on again. The A/C was off in both cases.
